Job title: Clinical Teaching Fellow, Health Justice Project (Non-Tenure Track)

About the Role The Clinical Teaching Fellow will work in collaboration with the Director of the Health Justice Project to assist with client representation, research, policy work, and supervision of law students. The fellow will teach the HJP clinic courses and engage in interprofessional collaborations across campus.

What You'll Do

  • Engage in direct legal representation, research, and policy work to improve access to health care and public benefits, housing, and services for persons with disabilities
  • Supervise students, volunteers, and staff; oversee intake; review pleadings; attend hearings and meetings with students
  • Assist with teaching the HJP clinic course and weekend clinic, and contribute to curriculum development
  • Train partners and students on poverty law, client counseling, and social determinants of health
  • Support faculty research, publish materials, and assist with event planning
  • Maintain professional communication with community health centers and collaborating entities
  • Participate in interprofessional collaborations with medicine, social work, public health, nursing, and other programs

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's and J.D. required; 2+ years of public interest direct legal and/or policy experience
  • Experience in an MLP, public interest, or law school clinic setting; barred in Illinois or bar eligible
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze legal sources; strong writing and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to work independently and in a team; detail-oriented
  • Commitment to client-centered lawyering, health equity, and serving low-income clients; willingness to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency in written/spoken Spanish highly preferred
  • Computer skills: Internet, case management systems, email, and office automation; experience with data collection systems

Nice to Have

  • Experience in one or more areas of law: public benefits, disability, housing, advance care planning, education, immigration, guardianship, civil rights, race-conscious lawyering, family law

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $80,000 – $85,000 per year
