Clinical Nurse PRN

About the Role The University of Utah College of Nursing seeks a registered nurse to provide clinical support in Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) facilities (SWUYC – Cedar City). This is an in-person, nurse-led clinic role based in Cedar City, emphasizing independent practice, teamwork, and high-quality care for adolescents in secure and detention settings. The successful candidate will assess patients, develop care plans, and collaborate with the broader care team, with a nurse practitioner providing remote support and escalation as needed. What You'll Do

• Identify and assess actual or potential patient health problems through nursing assessment, patient interaction, and review of relevant clinical information.
• Assess, plan, and implement evidence-based interventions to prevent, manage, and resolve patient health problems.
• Formulate care plans and document the nursing process in the patient’s record.
• Evaluate patient response to interventions and modify the plan of care as appropriate within nursing scope.
• Develop and participate in educating patients and families about post-discharge care programs.
• Initiate patient care meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as the patient’s condition warrants.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
• Provide guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care.
• Stay current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
• Provide and oversee direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocol and providers’ orders.
• Utilize knowledge of medications, infection control, and safety precautions; initiate appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
• Participate in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.
• PRN Nurses are encouraged to pursue the Certified Correctional Healthcare Professional (CCHP) certification; supplies are provided and the exam cost is reimbursed after successful certification. What We're Looking For
• Minimum Qualifications: Current RN license to practice in Utah or eligibility under the interstate compact (residency changes in Utah); ability to obtain within specified timeframes (30 days for eCredential; 90 days for RN license); maintain Interstate Compact license if residency is not changed.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (to be obtained within 30 days of hire).
• Immunization against CDC-recommended diseases as required by hospital policy; exemptions for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs may be considered.
• Preferred: Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP within one year of hire or evidence of equivalency (one year of education can substitute for two years of related work experience). Nice to Have

• Pay rate: $47.65 per hour (hourly). Part-time, approximately 12 hours per week with a day shift (Mon-Fri) in Cedar City, UT.
