Job title: Clinical Nurse Educator - Unit Based - 4L Med/Surge/Overflow - Days

About the Role The Clinical Nurse Educator – Department Based is a full-time, dual-role position supporting ongoing staff development in the med-surg population (0.4 FTE as educator and 0.4 FTE as RN for unit staffing). Reporting to the Director of Nursing Professional Development and working with the unit manager, this role elevates nursing practice through coaching, mentoring, and just-in-time education, while maintaining clinical proficiency through direct patient care.

What You'll Do

  • Provide direct patient care as needed and serve as a clinical resource in the med-surg setting.
  • Facilitate just-in-time education, precept new staff, and mentor existing staff; create and deliver on-unit in-services.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Manager to assess education and performance needs; support onboarding and competency development for unit staff and technicians.
  • Lead onboarding, unit/area competency development, and shared decision-making through unit councils; promote safety, quality outcomes and patient experience.
  • Support specialty certification preparation and lifelong learning; maintain professional development and contribute to evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain effective communication across disciplines and adapt schedules to accommodate educational activities.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: BSN required or Diploma in Nursing with a Bachelor's in a Health-Related Field; MSN preferred.
  • Certification: Current IL RN licensure; current nursing specialty certification; if no specialty certification, certification must be obtained within one year of assuming role. BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP as applicable.
  • Experience: At least five years of clinical experience in a medical center, hospital, or academic setting.
  • Skills: Adult learner knowledge; excellent written and verbal communication; flexibility; ability to engage with an interdisciplinary team; presentation skills; commitment to lifelong learning; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); EMR systems; familiarity with virtual meeting platforms; Workday; strong literature search skills.

Nice to Have

  • Proficiency with EMR and Workday; experience with onboarding and unit council involvement; strong evidence-based practice orientation.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $38.16 - $59.15 per hour.
