About the Role The Clinical Nurse Coordinator is a Registered Nurse designated to facilitate the functioning of the unit. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator demonstrates excellent clinical skills and acts as a resource to the staff. Major components include coordinating, delegating, communicating, and thinking critically on clinical and operational issues. Reports directly to the Unit Manager.
What You'll Do
- Functions as a resource person for nursing and medical staff.
- Collaborates with admitting, Bed Coordinator, and Supervisor to facilitate timely placement of admissions and transfers.
- Makes rounds on patients and stays abreast of condition/changes.
- Facilitates bed control by contacting physicians for early discharge orders and assists with timely discharges.
- Participates in the Nursing DIG Committee to improve patient throughput.
- Ensures adequate and appropriate coverage considering census, acuity, and RN: patient ratio; plans unit assignments based on staffing and staff competency; delegates new admissions/transfers to the appropriate RN; adjusts assignments as needed.
- Delegates work to non-professional staff (CNA, Unit Secretary); provides feedback.
- Delegates unit assignments (e.g., crash cart checks, temperature checks).
- Prioritizes bed clean-up with housekeeping and identifies stat cleaning needs.
- Participates in staff evaluation process; assists with annual performance evaluations including peer review, goal-setting, performance improvement, and progressive discipline.
- Orients agency personnel to unit and evaluates agency personnel; provides feedback.
- Coordinates staff during a code; grants temporary ID access for PYXIS.
- Acts as a resource to nursing staff for problem solving patient care issues.
- Communicates with other departments on unit and patient needs; reports significant events to Nursing Supervisor or Nurse Manager.
- In case of disasters, directs unit activities.
- Reports unit status to incoming Clinical Nurse Coordinator.
- Completes end-of-shift Summary Report.
- Assists with orientation of new employees.
- Functions as a member of Rapid Response and Stroke Team protocols where identified.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN preferred); graduate from an approved school of nursing.
- Two years of experience as a Staff Nurse.
- Strong clinical nursing skills, effective communication, teaching and motivational skills.
- Specialty Board Certification within 2 years of promotion.
- Current Illinois RN license; certification in area of expertise preferred.
- American Heart Association CPR Certification.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly pay: $36.00 - $55.80 (USD).
- Sign-on bonus: Yes; $5,000 for Direct Behavioral Health Nursing Experience/Greater than 3 years; $7,500 for greater than 6 years. Paid in 2 installments at 6 months and 12 months.
