About the Role The Clinical Lab Assistant will work independently and with minimal supervision in the Specimen Management/Clinical Lab setting. The role involves performing one or more identified modalities, with compensation dependent on the number of modalities performed; paid apprenticeship options may be available for candidates without experience. What You'll Do
- Perform duties in a professional and courteous manner, and maintain supplies and inventory necessary to perform departmental functions.
- Observe students and/or new staff as needed and demonstrate basic problem solving to ensure excellent customer and patient care.
- Assume hospital communication responsibilities as assigned, including on-call duties by location; maintain effective telephone and verbal communication.
- Apply professional judgment when dealing with clients, patients and co-workers; perform necessary clerical functions, including documenting critical communications such as call-ins in the absence of a supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and participate in coverage for on-call, holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- Demonstrate basic PC skills and participate in required on-site attendance during scheduled hours. What We're Looking For
- Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred: PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification; completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant or comparable program.
- Immunization: Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or waiver; provide PPD documentation within 90 days prior to hire or through TriCore; direct-contact departments require rubella, rubeola, varicella immunity or vaccination.
- General Requirements: Valid driver's license with a good driving record; able to work in a healthcare facility per NM Act; eligible to work in the U.S.
- Minimum Experience: Apprenticeship option available; candidates placed into CLA Levels 1-4 based on modalities completed.
- Modalities: Check-in/Order Entry, General Phlebotomy, Special Collections, Assisting procedures, Specimen Processing, Non-conformity Investigation, Lab Equipment Maintenance, Sample Testing, Training/Competency, and Department-specific support and inventory management. Nice to Have
- PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification; completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant program. Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly compensation based on the number of modalities performed; potential paid apprenticeship for candidates without prior experience.
- Schedule: Monday–Friday 1900–2300 with additional shifts as needed; on-site at Woodward/Specimen Management; on-call responsibilities and holiday/evening/weekend coverage as required.
