About the Role The Clinical Lab Assistant at TriCore Reference Laboratories supports independent work with minimal supervision and may perform multiple modalities. Compensation is based on the number of modalities performed, with an apprenticeship option for candidates without prior experience. The role requires regular in-person attendance during scheduled hours and on-call responsibilities as assigned by location.

What You'll Do

• Perform duties in a professional and courteous manner.
• Maintain supplies and inventory necessary to perform departmental functions.
• Observe students and/or new staff as needed.
• Demonstrate problem solving skills to ensure exceptional patient care and service levels.
• Manage hospital communication responsibilities, including on-call duties during scheduled hours by location.
• Demonstrate effective telephone and verbal communication skills.
• Exercise professional judgment when dealing with clients, patients and co-workers.
• Perform clerical tasks as needed, including documenting critical communications such as call-ins in the absence of a supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of personal and confidential information.
• Participate in and maintain coverage levels for on-call and for holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
• Possess basic PC skills.
• Depending on the modalities assigned by department leadership, support tasks may include check-in/order entry/reconciliation, general phlebotomy, specimen processing, special collections, and other lab operations.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum education: HS diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification; completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant or comparable program.
• Immunization requirements: Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or waiver; documentation of a PPD test within 90 days prior to hire or PPD test conducted through TriCore; for departments with direct patient contact, immunity to rubella, rubeola, and varicella.
• General requirements: Valid driver’s license with good driving record and insurability; eligible to work in a health care facility as provided by the New Mexico Caregivers Criminal History Screening Act or other applicable law.
• Minimum experience: Candidates with no training or experience may be considered for an apprenticeship; selected candidates will be placed into CLA Levels 1–4 based on modalities completed.
• Modality coverage and training: Modalities assigned by department leadership; prior experience with check-in/order entry, phlebotomy, specimen processing, and related lab tasks is advantageous.
• This role may involve on-call, holiday, evening, and weekend coverage as part of service levels.
• Optional training: N95 fit testing and related competency assessments may be provided.

• Completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant program or equivalent
• Additional department-specific technical skills or certifications related to listed modalities
• Experience with laboratory safety, biohazard disposal, and QC processes

Compensation & Benefits

• Compensation is hourly and dependent on the number of modalities performed; paid apprenticeship is available for candidates without prior experience.
