Clinical Lab Assistant Phlebotomist

About the Role The Clinical Lab Assistant Phlebotomist will work at Lovelace Women’s Hospital, performing phlebotomy and related lab support across multiple modalities. This role supports patient care and lab operations, with compensation tied to the modalities performed, with a paid apprenticeship available for candidates without prior experience. Regular in-person attendance and on-call responsibilities are required. What You'll Do

• Check-in and Order Entry / Reconciliation across systems: identify patient, reconcile orders, manual entry when needed, insurance/payment handling as needed.
• General Phlebotomy (ages 10+) using vacutainer, butterfly, and syringe collections.
• Special Collections and/or external shipping certification (arterial blood gas, pediatric/infant draws, sweat, breath, occupational health/drug screen, MRSA, Covid collections, therapeutic phlebotomies).
• Assist provider-performed procedures (FNA, Bone Marrow, EBUS, Bronchial lavage).
• Specimen Processing (receipt, sorting, delivery/loading, decanting, retention for send-out testing, triage, storage and disposal).
• Non-conformity investigation / Problem resolution with proper documentation.
• Lab Equipment Maintenance and/or support; chemical and biohazard waste management for non-testing instrumentation.
• Sample Testing (waived to moderate) including instrument maintenance, QC and biosafety handling.
• Training/competency assessments for employees and students; N95 fit testing when applicable.
• Department-specific clerical or support functions and inventory coordination.
• Participate in on-call and holiday/evening/weekend coverage to meet service levels. What We're Looking For
• Education: HS diploma or equivalent; preferred PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification; completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant program.
• Immunizations/Health: Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination; PPD test within 90 days prior to hire or through TriCore; direct patient contact immunizations (rubella, rubeola, varicella).
• Licenses/Eligibility: Valid driver’s license; good driving record; insurable by lab carrier; eligible to work in a healthcare facility.
• Experience: Apprenticeship available for candidates with no prior training; experience across multiple modalities; ability to work with minimal supervision and strong patient service skills.
• Other: Basic PC skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; on-call readiness and shift flexibility. Nice to Have
• PBT (ASCP) certification or equivalent (preferred).
• Experience with arterial blood gas, pediatric/infant draws, and other department-specific procedures; familiarity with hospital EMR and lab systems; N95 fit testing experience. Compensation & Benefits
