About the Role
The Clinical Lab Assistant Phlebotomist works in a hospital laboratory environment, able to operate with minimal supervision to perform one or more identified modalities. The position involves phlebotomy, specimen handling, and on-call coverage to support patient care, with compensation based on the number of modalities performed; paid apprenticeship is available for candidates without experience. What You'll Do

Perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and support patient care

Maintain supplies and inventory to support department operations

Handle hospital communications and on-call responsibilities as assigned

Demonstrate effective telephone/verbal communication and professional judgment when interacting with clients, patients, and staff

Complete clerical tasks including documenting critical communications and call-ins in supervisor’s absence

Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with privacy requirements

Participate in on-call and holiday/evening/weekend coverage as needed

Perform basic PC tasks and operate department systems

Assist with check-in and order entry/reconciliation; coordinate specimen collection and processing

Perform General Phlebotomy (ages 10+) using vacutainer, butterfly, or syringe

Support department modalities such as specimen processing, non-conformity/risk resolution, and equipment maintenance as assigned

Provide department-specific skilled technical assistance and training as needed What We're Looking For

Minimum education: HS diploma or equivalent; preferred PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification; completion of relevant Clinical Lab Assistant or comparable program

Immunization: Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or waiver; documentation of PPD (tested within 90 days of hire or through TriCore); for direct patient contact, rubella, rubeola, and varicella immunity when eligible

General requirements: Valid driver’s license and good driving record; eligible to work in a healthcare facility per state law; insurable by lab carrier

Experience: Apprenticeship available for candidates with no prior training; potential advancement to CLA Levels 1-4 based on modality competencies

Certifications/Skills: Phlebotomy proficiency; ability to work in a hospital setting; basic PC skills; willingness to participate in on-call and shift coverage Nice to Have
