Job title: Clinical Lab Assistant Phlebotomist
About the Role The Clinical Lab Assistant Phlebotomist supports TriCore’s laboratory operations, performing phlebotomy and additional modalities as assigned. The role requires independent work with minimal supervision, on-call coverage, and the ability to adapt to various shifts at the UNM Branch Labs.
What You'll Do
- Performs duties in a professional and courteous manner
- Maintains supplies and inventory necessary to perform departmental functions
- Observe students and/or new staff as needed
- Exhibit basic problem solving skills to ensure exceptional customer and patient care service levels
- Responsible for hospital communication responsibilities as assigned, including on-call responsibilities during scheduled hours by location
- Demonstrates effective telephone and verbal communication skills
- Acts with professional judgment when dealing with clients, patients and co-workers
- Perform clerical functions as needed by the department, including documenting critical communication such as call-ins in the absence of a supervisor
- Maintain levels of confidentiality associated with position and access to personal and confidential information
- Participate in and maintain coverage levels for on call as needed/required to meet service levels
- Participate in coverage for holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed or required
- Basic PC skills
What We're Looking For
- Minimum Education: HS diploma or equivalent
- Preferred: PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification; completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant or comparable program
- Immunization Requirements: Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or waiver; PPD test within 90 days prior to hire or completed through TriCore; rubella, rubeola and varicella immunity for departments with direct patient contact
- General Requirements: Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to work in a healthcare facility per NM regulations
- Minimum Experience: Candidates with no training/experience may be considered for an apprenticeship; candidates placed into CLA Level 1–4 based on modalities completed
- Modalities include check-in and order entry, general phlebotomy, special collections, assisting provider procedures, specimen processing, non-conformity investigation, lab equipment maintenance, and more

- N95 FIT Testing (training may be provided)
- Department-specific technical and clerical skills as described
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly compensation; amount depends on the number of modalities performed, with an option for a paid apprenticeship for candidates without experience
- Schedule includes 1 hour lunch; regular in-person attendance required
- On-call, holiday, evening, and weekend coverage as needed
