Job title: Clinical Lab Assistant Phlebotomist
About the Role The Clinical Lab Assistant Phlebotomist will support hospital laboratory operations at PRMC Hospital, Clovis. The role requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to perform multiple laboratory modalities; compensation is dependent on the number of modalities performed and an apprenticeship path may be available for candidates without experience. Regular in-person attendance during scheduled hours is essential.
What You'll Do
- Perform duties in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain supplies and inventory necessary to perform departmental functions.
- Observe students and/or new staff as needed.
- Exhibit basic problem solving skills to ensure exceptional customer and patient care service levels.
- Responsible for hospital communication responsibilities as assigned, including on-call responsibilities during scheduled hours by location.
- Demonstrate effective telephone and verbal communication skills.
- Actively demonstrates professional judgment when dealing with clients, patients and co-workers.
- Perform clerical functions as needed by the department, including, but not limited to documenting critical communication such as call-ins in the absence of a supervisor.
- Responsible for maintaining levels of confidentiality associated with position and access to personal and confidential information.
- Participate in and maintain coverage levels for on call as needed/required to meet service levels.
- Participate in coverage for holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed or required.
- Basic PC skills.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification; completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant or comparable program.
- Immunization Requirements: Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or waiver; documentation of a PPD test not more than 90 days prior to hire, or a PPD test conducted through TriCore.
- In departments/locations with direct patient contact: immunity to rubella, rubeola and varicella.
- General requirements: Valid driver's license and good driving record; insurable by lab insurance carrier as required by location.
- Eligible to work in a health care facility as provided by applicable state laws.
- Minimum experience: candidates with no training may be considered for an apprenticeship. Selected candidates will be placed into CLA Levels 1-4 based on modalities completed.
- Modalities include: Check-in/Order Entry, General Phlebotomy, Special Collections, Assisting provider procedures, Specimen Processing, Non-conformity investigation, Lab Equipment Maintenance/Support, Sample Testing, Training/competency assessments.
Nice to Have
- Experience across multiple modalities is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- This is an hourly position. Compensation is dependent on the number of modalities performed, with additional on-call and holiday coverage requirements. Schedule is Tuesday–Friday 04:30–10:30 with weekends, holidays, on-call, and other shifts as needed. Location: PRMC Hospital, Clovis.
