About the Role Wheaton College’s nursing program seeks a Clinical Instructor in Medical-Surgical Nursing to provide clinical education for assigned student groups in healthcare agencies. The instructor will orient students to policies and procedures, introduce them to faculty expectations for clinical experiences, and guide them through the clinical portion of the program in support of Wheaton College’s mission of diverse and inclusive excellence. What You'll Do
- Review and translate classroom and clinical course objectives into effective teaching strategies to meet program goals.
- Model clear oral and written communication; engage students and foster learning.
- Address student concerns related to the learning experience.
- Support students in developing professional values and attitudes appropriate to the healthcare profession.
- Establish and maintain relationships with clinical sites; coordinate with clinicians to assign students to patients.
- Lead pre-conference to plan day’s patient care assignments; conduct post-conference to reflect on practice.
- Provide instruction in clinical and clinical simulation labs; supervise a group of students (typically six) during clinical rotations.
- Orient students to the clinical area and demonstrate proper procedures; ensure compliance with clinical standards and course expectations.
- Evaluate and grade student performance using the weekly rubric; communicate with the Course Coordinator as needed.
- Participate in faculty meetings and nursing program committees; contribute to ongoing program evaluation.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and professionalism; maintain student-friendly demeanor and respect for students, faculty, and staff.
- Prepare summary evaluations at course termination; review with students and submit signed forms; contribute to end-of-course course evaluations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
