Job title: Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (CHS) Trainee

About the Role This is a training position. The Trainee will be enrolled in a state-approved training program for the Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (CHS). While enrolled in the program, the trainee will be trained to perform HLA typing by molecular methods, KIR genotyping by SSP, Crossmatch by flow cytometry, Antibody screening by Luminex-based method, Chimerism testing by NGS, and other procedures that are performed by licensed histocompatibility personnel.

What You'll Do

  • Accession samples using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Isolate DNA from blood, buccal mucosa, and cells
  • Isolate and cryopreserve lymphocytes from blood, spleen, and lymph nodes
  • Prepare serum samples for testing
  • Maintain samples in the inventory
  • Prepare reagents for testing
  • Perform QC and maintenance on various laboratory equipment
  • Perform maintenance duties for lab space
  • Order and stock lab supplies
  • File lab reports
  • Archive and scan documents
  • Carry out procedures as trained, including HLA typing by molecular methods, KIR genotyping by SSP, crossmatch by flow cytometry, antibody screening by Luminex-based method, and chimerism testing by NGS
  • Other duties that are performed by licensed histocompatibility personnel

What We're Looking For

  • Enrollment in a state-approved training program for the Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (CHS)
  • Willingness to be trained to perform HLA typing by molecular methods, KIR genotyping, crossmatch, antibody screening, and chimerism testing
  • Ability to accession samples using LIS and to isolate DNA from blood, buccal mucosa, and cells
  • Capability to isolate and cryopreserve lymphocytes from blood, spleen, and lymph nodes
  • Experience with preparing serum samples, maintaining inventory, preparing reagents, and performing QC and maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Ability to maintain lab space, order and stock supplies, and file/archive lab documents
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow state-approved training requirements
