Salary: The budgeted salary rate for the position is $135,000 - $160,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Summary/Description: The UIC Retzky College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice is seeking a full-time, motivated professional for the position of Clinical Faculty (Open Rank)/Clinical Pharmacist, Coordinator, Hospital Pharmacy Services who will be assigned to UI Health’s Central Pharmacy.
The ideal candidate will work within the Hospital Pharmacy Operations and team and will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients at the University of Illinois Hospital. The hospital is a 450-bed academic institution located approximately 2 miles west of downtown Chicago. The hospital serves an urban, indigent patient population.
The Retzky College of Pharmacy, with campuses in Chicago and Rockford, is the 1 college of pharmacy in Illinois and #6 in total research grant funding, according to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Duties

Oversee compliance with USP , USP , state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.

Provide leadership and day-to-day support to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in sterile compounding areas.

Monitor and maintain cleanroom environmental controls, including temperature, humidity, pressure differentials, certification schedules, and environmental monitoring programs.

Develop, review, and maintain cleanroom policies, procedures, workflows, and documentation.

Lead quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives related to sterile compounding, cleanroom practices, and medication safety.

Investigate cleanroom deviations, contamination events, sterility concerns, and medication-related incidents; implement corrective and preventive actions as needed.

Ensure proper inventory management of cleanroom supplies, hazardous drug products, sterile compounding materials, and equipment.

Conduct routine audits of compounding records, cleaning logs, environmental monitoring results, and staff documentation to ensure compliance.

Analyze operational metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, regulatory compliance, and customer service.

Assist with implementation of new technologies, workflows, medications, and services related to sterile and hazardous drug compounding.

Participate in regulatory inspections, accreditation surveys, and internal audits, including preparation of required documentation and corrective action plans.

Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for sterile compounding, cleanroom operations, hazardous drug handling, and pharmacy regulatory requirements.

Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Coordinate daily sterile compounding and cleanroom operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant medication preparation.

Coordinate content development and training activities for pharmacy specific educational and clinical programs targeted for students, residents, fellows, and faculty; areas of focus include clinical skill development, provision of clinical pharmacy services, experiential education and critical thinking/problem solving.

Responsible for all pharmacy operational, educational, clinical, and business aspects for areas of responsibility; these include addressing and coordinating patient management issues; fiscal operations; scheduling; staff recruiting, orientation, training and development; monitoring workflow; and ensuring appropriate pharmacist and technical staffing in patient care areas.

Ensure compliance with pharmacy specific standards such as Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act 1996 (HIPAA), The Joint Commission (TJC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Institute/coordinate quality control mechanisms to ensure the availability and appropriate use of pharmaceuticals, including investigational drugs; utilize continuous quality improvement in this process; oversee medication management in the Hospital Pharmacy Services.

Evaluate and implement new departmental pharmacy information systems to maximize efficiency and achieve the goals of the unit.

Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, certification, and repair activities for cleanroom and compounding devices.

Coordinate personnel training, competency assessments, and ongoing education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians involved in sterile compounding.
Minimum Qualifications:

PharmD degree from an ACPE accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Program.

Completion of Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) pharmacy residency required.

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a hospital pharmacy setting and/or leadership role in lieu of completion of a post graduate year 1 residency and/or fellowship

Must present evidence of, or eligibility for, Illinois licensure as a professional pharmacist by start date.

Must possess knowledge and skills such that they qualify for a non-tenured clinical faculty position within the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the UIC College of Pharmacy. Academic rank commensurate with experience.
