About the Role At Stewart, the Claims Counsel role ensures that accountable decisions are made at the appropriate level and that decision-makers understand the level of legal risk on title insurance and related real estate matters. The position favors title claim/real estate work experience and requires strong cross-functional written and verbal communication skills to handle high-stress, high-volume workloads. What You'll Do
- Manage and resolve claims initiated under title insurance policies and products.
- Interpret internal/external business environment to guide decisions.
- Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel and legal representation of insured.
- Negotiate settlements and claim resolutions with claimants, third parties and opposing counsel.
- Manage personal caseload including matters involving fraud, forgery, missed liens, access issues, easement disputes, and more.
- Identify and posture resolved claims for recovery or salvage.
- Perform specialized assignments; solve complex problems and develop non-traditional solutions through sophisticated analytical thinking.
- Recommends best practices to improve processes or services.
- Impact customer, operational, project or service objectives.
- Work as an independent contributor; may require guidance in highly complex situations.
- Occasional travel to participate in mediations and settlement conferences. What We're Looking For
- Title claim/real estate work experience preferred with a proven record of strong cross-functional written and verbal communication skills.
- Past experience handling high-stress situations and high-volume workload. Nice to Have
- Title insurance or real estate/settlement experience.
