Job Title: Civil Engineer Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Summary

• Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Civil Engineer to oversee civil works, structural maintenance, building infrastructure, and related engineering activities across the hotel property.
• The successful candidate will ensure that the hotel's buildings, external structures, drainage systems, roads, walkways, facilities, and other civil infrastructure are maintained to appropriate safety, quality, and operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect hotel buildings, structures, external areas, and civil infrastructure regularly to identify defects and maintenance requirements.
• Plan, supervise, and coordinate civil maintenance, repairs, renovations, and improvement projects.
• Monitor the structural condition of buildings, walls, ceilings, floors, roofing systems, drainage structures, and other facilities.
• Develop maintenance schedules for civil and structural components of the hotel.
• Prepare technical assessments, work specifications, material requirements, and cost estimates for civil works.
• Supervise contractors, artisans, and technicians carrying out civil construction and maintenance activities.
• Ensure all civil works are completed according to approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and timelines.
• Inspect construction materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with required standards.
• Monitor repairs to cracks, concrete defects, leaking roofs, damaged walls, flooring, tiling, paving, and other structural or finishing elements.
• Oversee maintenance of drainage systems, walkways, parking areas, external walls, fences, gates, and other outdoor infrastructure.
• Identify potential structural, water-infiltration, drainage, erosion, and other property-related risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Coordinate with the Facility Manager and other engineering personnel on maintenance and improvement projects.
• Work with contractors and consultants on renovation, refurbishment, and construction projects.
• Review contractor quotations and technical proposals and provide recommendations to management.
• Monitor project costs, materials, labour, and progress to minimise waste and unnecessary expenditure.
• Ensure that construction and maintenance activities are carried out safely and with minimal disruption to hotel operations and guests.
• Maintain proper records of inspections, maintenance activities, projects, materials, contractors, and technical reports.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building, health, safety, environmental, and engineering standards.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical reports on identified defects and recommended corrective measures.
• Assist management in planning capital expenditure relating to building and civil infrastructure.
• Support emergency response to structural, drainage, flooding, or other civil-related incidents.
• Recommend preventive maintenance and improvement measures to extend the useful life of hotel infrastructure.
• Perform other engineering duties assigned by management.

Requirements

• B.Sc. / B.Eng. in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' relevant experience in civil engineering, construction, building maintenance, or facilities management.
• Experience in hotel, commercial property, residential, or institutional facilities will be an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of building construction, structural maintenance, concrete works, drainage, waterproofing, and finishing works.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Experience supervising contractors, artisans, and construction/maintenance teams.
• Good knowledge of construction materials, methods, quality control, and site safety.
• Strong project coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify building defects and maintenance risks.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering/design software.
• Ability to prepare technical reports, estimates, and work specifications.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to urgent maintenance requirements.
• COREN registration or eligibility for professional registration will be an added advantage.
• Willingness to work outside normal hours when required for emergencies or critical projects.
