About the Role The Department of Home Affairs is hiring entry-level Civic Services Clerks to support public service delivery at front desks. The role involves assisting customers with enquiries, performing online verifications, issuing service tickets, and directing applicants to the appropriate units while maintaining a professional and friendly service standard. What You'll Do
- Attend to enquiries and perform online verification (fingerprint and marital status checks on HANIS).
- Greet customers and provide a professional, warm, and friendly welcome; provide orientation and information on required services.
- Check applicant status (Fingerprint register on HANIS and marital status); conduct online verification and issue tickets.
- Advise and direct customers to relevant units; maintain high customer service standards.
- Operate at front and behind pay barriers; direct customers to service departments promptly.
- Maintain waiting areas to ensure accessibility, appearance, and demarcation meet departmental standards.
- Monitor case records; monitor influx of foreigners with no legal documentation; handle incidental matters regarding identity of illegal foreigners who are arrested, detained or convicted.
- Operate the live capture photo booth; verify, validate and capture client information; administer fingerprints; scan supporting documents.
- Receive, scan and file smart cards; process collection and distribution of ID cards; process applications for Identity Documents, Births, Marriages, Deaths, Late Registrations, Rectifications and Amendments; issue citizenship documents.
- Implement policies and procedures in line with approval framework; monitor physical resources. What We're Looking For
- An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 6 or higher) in Public Management, Administration, Operations, Business Management, Management or Administration, Law or Social Science.
- Knowledge of Public Service Regulatory Frameworks; Batho Pele Principles; Fraud prevention; Constitution; Departmental Regulations and Prescripts.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours.
- Interpersonal skills, client orientation, computer literacy, and strong communication (written and verbal) abilities.

- Salary: R269,499 - R317,463 per annum (Level 06). This is a yearly salary for an entry-level Civic Services Clerk.
