Role summary: The CTO is responsible for defining and executing Paymi Solutions Limited technology vision, strategy, architecture, and innovation roadmap. The CTO leads the engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, and technology operations functions to deliver secure, scalable, resilient, and high-performing digital financial solutions. The role ensures that technology capabilities support business growth, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and exceptional customer experiences while maintaining the highest standards of security and availability.

Key responsibilities include defining and owning the technology strategy, architecture roadmap and build-vs-buy decisions across payments, core banking integrations and channels; leading and scaling the engineering organization; ensuring platform reliability, uptime, scalability and disaster-recovery readiness; owning technology risk management with the CISO; evaluating and managing relationships with core banking, switching, NIBSS/NQR and other payment-infrastructure partners; setting engineering budgets, tooling and cloud-infrastructure strategy; reporting technology KPIs to the Board; championing engineering excellence, documentation and continuous delivery; presenting technology performance, risks, and strategic initiatives to the Executive Leadership Team and Board; leading software engineering teams responsible for backend systems, frontend applications, mobile platforms, APIs, and integrations; ensuring successful delivery of scalable fintech products; implementing QA frameworks; overseeing cloud infrastructure, networks, databases, storage systems, and production environments; ensuring high availability and disaster recovery readiness; optimizing infrastructure costs; establishing monitoring and incident management practices; ensuring secure software development and cybersecurity best practices; overseeing vulnerability management, penetration testing and remediation; managing technology risks and business continuity; providing strategic oversight for enterprise data platforms and analytics; promoting data-driven decision-making; ensuring governance and protection of data assets; evaluating and managing technology vendors and partners; negotiating contracts; building and mentoring teams; fostering innovation and continuous learning; implementing succession planning.

Qualifications: Educational: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field required; Master's advantageous; relevant cloud/architecture certifications advantageous.

Experience

  • 10–15 years fintech/financial services; 10+ years building or scaling payments, banking or fintech platforms; 7+ years leadership including engineering managers; skills include deep expertise in distributed systems, API design and payment-processing architectures; PCI-DSS knowledge, secure coding, cloud security; high availability, high-throughput transaction systems; people leadership; vendor and integration-partner management; cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud); platform reliability engineering; cybersecurity and secure development; digital payments infrastructure; strategic planning and execution; budget management and financial acumen; decision-making and problem-solving; communication and influencing skills. Regulatory considerations Nigeria: ensures technology architecture and controls meet CBN IT standards and the CBN Risk-Based Cybersecurity Framework for payment service providers; PCI-DSS compliance for card and payment-data handling systems; NDPA 2023 compliance including data localization and data-subject rights by design; collaborate with CISO and Chief Risk & Internal Control Officer on technology-risk reporting for regulatory examinations; support regulatory audits and compliance reporting.
