About this role
QuLattice
QuLattice is building foundational software and architectural tools to accelerate practical quantum computing. Focused at the intersection of quantum error correction (QEC), lattice surgery, fault-tolerant compiler design, and hardware-software co-design, QuLattice enables the transition from noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices to scalable, fault-tolerant quantum systems.
As an early-stage co-founder, you will partner directly with the founding team to establish the core technical vision, architect our core IP, recruit elite technical talent, and build the software stack powering the next generation of quantum computing infrastructure.
The Role
As CTO & Co-Founder, you will own QuLattice’s technical strategy, architecture, and engineering execution. You will bridge advanced quantum theoretical frameworks (topological codes, stabilizer formalism, syndrome decoding) with high-performance software engineering (C++, Rust, distributed systems).
Beyond writing code and designing algorithms, you will be a strategic partner in company building—pitching to deep-tech venture capitalists, shaping commercial product roadmaps, and representing QuLattice in the scientific and industrial quantum ecosystem.
Core Responsibilities
- Technical Vision & Product Architecture Architect and lead the development of QuLattice’s core software stack, including fault-tolerant quantum compilers, real-time syndrome decoders, and lattice-surgery simulation engines.
Translate theoretical breakthroughs in quantum error correction and topological quantum codes into robust, performant, and production-ready software tools.
Define technical standards, CI/CD pipelines, benchmarking suites, and software architecture to support fast iteration.
- Team Building & Technical Leadership Build, mentor, and lead an exceptional engineering team spanning quantum information scientists, compiler engineers, and high-performance computing (HPC) developers.
Foster a rigorous, collaborative, and mission-driven engineering culture focused on scientific precision and rapid prototyping.
- Strategic Execution & Fundraising Partner with co-founders on company strategy, milestone planning, and resource allocation.
Co-lead technical due diligence and pitches for venture capital, strategic grants, and non-dilutive deep-tech funding (e.g., NSF, DARPA, DOE).
Establish technical relationships with quantum hardware providers, research institutions, and national quantum initiatives.
- Ecosystem & Thought Leadership Serve as a public technical voice for QuLattice at top-tier industry conferences (e.g., QCE, APS March Meeting, IEEE Quantum Week).
Oversee patent filings, IP strategy, and selected scientific publications in relevant peer-reviewed venues.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Ph.D. in Quantum Information Science, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related quantitative field.
Postdoctoral Experience: At least 1 year of postdoctoral research experience focused directly on quantum computing (e.g., quantum error correction, fault tolerance, topological codes, quantum algorithms, or quantum hardware-software interfaces).
Work Authorization / Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) (required due to export controls, ITAR/EAR regulations, and eligibility for federal research grants/programs).
Technical & Software Rigor: Demonstrated track record developing high-performance scientific software (C++, Rust, or Python) applied to quantum simulations, tensor networks, decoding routines, or quantum circuit compilation.
Builder Mindset: Strong passion for early-stage venture creation, comfort operating with high autonomy under ambiguity, and the ability to balance rigorous scientific theory with rapid MVP engineering.
What We Offer
Founding Equity: Substantial equity stake commensurate with a co-founder role.
Impact: Direct ownership in defining the technical backbone of fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Autonomy: Full authority over technology stack selection, hiring decisions, and engineering methodology.
