Chief of Staff to COO

Instalily
New York City
On-siteUSD 160,000 - 180,000 / year

About this role

About the Role Instalily is seeking a Chief of Staff to the COO to extend capacity across our most critical commercial surfaces—customers, PE and portfolio company partnerships, and the deals that drive ARR. You will work directly with Sumo to translate strategic direction into executable plans, stepping into customer engagements and operational priorities when needed. This role offers a direct partnership with the COO and a hands-on path to shaping how the company scales. What You'll Do

  • Own strategic and operational priorities tied to customers, PE partnerships, and revenue, and drive them to completion across functions.
  • Step into PE and portco meetings, customer conversations, and escalations on Sumo's behalf; prep for every meeting as if you're leading it.
  • Drive deals forward across stages; translate ambiguous direction into structured plans and own them to close; identify patterns across accounts for leadership.
  • Build and maintain the cadence that keeps Sumo in front of the right customers with the right context at the right time; codify scalable structures.
  • Be a credible strategic thought partner to Sumo on commercial priorities and customer strategy. What We're Looking For
  • 7–10 years of operator, strategy, or commercial experience (strategy, consulting, chief of staff, BD, or operator roles).
  • Executive presence in customer rooms: comfortable in front of Fortune 500 customers or PE operating partners.
  • Commercial instinct: ability to read deals, customers, and rooms; know when to escalate or handle yourself.
  • First principles thinking: ability to strip problems down and rebuild from the ground up.
  • Pattern recognition across accounts: manage multiple threads and identify what matters.
  • Detail-oriented: able to stay on top of many accounts and fast-moving work.
  • AI-native: takes AI seriously and looks for ways to push what's possible.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: thrives in open-ended, high-stakes problems and can figure out the path forward.
  • Acceleration: makes decisions quickly and drives execution; outcome-oriented for self and stakeholders.
  • Move fast, close loops: finishes what you start, flags problems early, proactive.
  • Clear communication: writing lands, can hold the room, translates complexity without losing what matters.
  • In-office availability: 5 days/week in New York office for first 6 months, then 4 days/week in person with 1 day remote. Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $160,000 - $180,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
  • Equity: Generous stock options awards and refreshers for top performers.
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, Well-being stipend, In-office lunch reimbursement, PTO and 10 US Federal Holidays, and more!
