Job title: Chief Engineer
Hyde Melbourne Place is looking for a Chief Engineer to lead facilities and maintenance across the hotel. You’re the backbone of our building – ensuring that everything behind the scenes runs like clockwork. From technical systems to preventive maintenance, from energy efficiency to team leadership, you keep the hotel operating at its best. Your work allows our teams to deliver seamless service and our guests to enjoy a safe, comfortable, and memorable stay.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of all engineering systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical; leading, scheduling, and supporting the engineering team to ensure effective coverage and high standards of work; managing and implementing preventive maintenance programs for equipment, guest rooms, and public areas; responding quickly to maintenance requests or emergencies minimizing disruption to operations and guests; collaborating with department heads to support operational needs and ensure seamless service delivery; ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards as well as legal and brand requirements; managing contractors, service providers, and external inspections to ensure quality and timely work; monitoring and optimizing energy use, utilities, and maintenance budgets; keeping detailed maintenance records and assisting with capital planning and project implementation; training the team on safety, emergency procedures, and best practices.

Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or similar role within hotels, resorts, or commercial buildings; strong knowledge of building services, plant equipment, and compliance requirements; hands-on leadership style with excellent problem-solving skills; strong organizational and time management abilities; ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call as required; excellent communication and stakeholder management.
