Yoh Life Sciences is hiring a Chemometrician – Analytical Chemist for a direct-hire opportunity in Houston or Austin, TX.

This is a unique opportunity for an analytical scientist who enjoys working at the intersection of spectroscopy, chemometrics, and scientific programming. The Chemometrician – Analytical Chemist will support the development of predictive chemometric models through hands-on laboratory experimentation, spectral data analysis, and software-enabled data workflows.

The successful candidate will work with NIR and Raman spectroscopy, design experiments to generate high-quality calibration and validation datasets, construct predictive models that translate spectral data into actionable information, and contribute to software tools used to evaluate and deploy chemometric models.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory experiments specifically aimed at generating calibration and validation datasets for chemometric model development.

• Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation, including NIR and Raman spectroscopy systems.

• Apply sound sampling strategies, Design of Experiments (DoE), and quality control practices to ensure data quality and representativeness.

• Construct predictive models that translate spectral data into usable information for customers.

• Develop and improve scientific software supporting MATLAB and Python Software Development Kits (SDKs) used by the chemometrics team.

• Develop applications and tools used to evaluate chemometric models prior to deployment to field analyzers.

• Collaborate across scientific, technical, and software-focused teams to translate complex analytical concepts into practical solutions.

• Apply software development best practices, including version control, testing, and documentation.

• Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.

• Familiarity with instrumental analysis and spectroscopic experimental methods, such as NIR and/or Raman spectroscopy.

• Working knowledge of chemometric modeling concepts and data analysis techniques.

• Proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB for scientific or data analysis. Relevant experience may come from professional work, academic research, coursework, or personal projects.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams.

• Ability to travel approximately 20–25%.

• Preferred Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate research, internship, or co-op experience involving spectral data analysis, analytical method development, chemometrics, or data pipeline development.

• Experience developing calibration and validation datasets and/or predictive models from spectral data.

• Experience with chemometrics platforms such as PLS_Toolbox, The Unscrambler, or Solo+MIA.

• Experience with APIs, relational databases (RDBMS), NoSQL databases, Docker containers, or ReactJS.

• Experience developing scientific software, analytical applications, or data-processing tools.
