About the Role Novartis Biomedical Research and Global Discovery Chemistry seek a Chemistry Subject Matter Expert to drive scientific due diligence, search, evaluation, and integration of external opportunities, including industrial and academic collaborations, aligned with strategic priorities. This role ensures the smooth functioning of GDC alliances and cross-functional collaboration across BR and Novartis.

What You'll Do

  • Chemistry Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the primary chemistry expert on deal teams, providing informed guidance and deep technical insight throughout the due diligence process.
  • Lead Search and Evaluation: Identify, assess, and prioritise external industrial opportunities and academic collaborations relevant to strategic objectives.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify and objectively evaluate potential risks (scientific, technical, and developmental); propose feasible risk mitigation strategies to support informed decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders across GDC, BR, and Novartis to ensure alignment and transparency throughout asset evaluation and acquisition.
  • Portfolio Impact: Drive the acquisition of high-quality assets, contributing to the strategic growth and competitiveness of the global portfolio.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across drug discovery, chemistry, biology, and business functions to deliver a comprehensive asset.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry.
  • Experience: 10+ years’ experience in drug discovery, with a strong track record in evaluating small molecule and other modality assets within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in scientific due diligence, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies for drug discovery projects.
  • Agility & Complexity Management: Proven ability to navigate complex scientific and organizational environments, adapting quickly to changing priorities and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience managing and influencing stakeholders across global organizations.
  • Global Perspective: Experience working in or leading global teams, with a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities in a multinational environment.
