Job title: Chemical Laboratory Assistant
About the Role The Chemical Laboratory Assistant supports analytical testing operations at ALS Global, contributing to accurate analyses of samples and safe handling of laboratory equipment. You’ll prepare reagents, work with analytical instruments, and help maintain ISO 17025 quality and workplace safety. This role requires teamwork and the ability to manage workload during peak seasons.
What You'll Do
- Perform chemical analyses of samples, including precious metals, following established methods.
- Prepare calibration solutions and reagents as required.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment, ensuring proper use and safety.
- Adhere to ISO 17025 requirements and laboratory safety policies.
- Prepare and maintain solutions, record results accurately, and manage documentation.
- Work effectively in a team and assist with high-volume workload during peak seasons.
- Lift weights up to 20 kg for men and up to 10 kg for women; replace acetylene cylinders as needed.
- Proficient PC use; basic knowledge of English is advantageous.
- Focus on quality with strong attention to detail.
What We're Looking For
- Higher professional (technical) education or secondary professional chemical education with at least 1 year of experience.
- Organized, highly motivated with strong analytical and mechanical skills.
- Excellent visuomotor coordination; attention to detail; commitment to quality.
- Ability to work well in a team and manage large workloads during busy periods.
- Proficient PC user; basic English preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 20 kg (men) and 10 kg (women), and to replace acetylene cylinders.
- Knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry; methods for analyzing precious metals; safe handling of instruments.
- Familiarity with safe work practices, safety, occupational health, and fire safety rules; knowledge of ISO 17025; experience with spectrometers is a plus.
