About the Role Hyundai America Technical Center (HATCI) is seeking a Chassis Driveline Engineer to join the Chassis Engineering Design Team. The role focuses on the design, development, and validation of driveline systems for U.S. SUV, pickup, and off-road vehicles, ensuring a robust, high-performance driveline architecture and seamless cross-functional integration.

What You'll Do

• End-to-end driveline design and development for 4WD/AWD vehicles (transfer cases, power transfer units, and related mechanisms) to meet performance and reliability targets.
• Design and development of axle assemblies and shaft components (solid rear axles, front/rear half-shafts, prop shafts, driveshafts) to withstand high-torque off-road conditions while meeting weight and durability goals.
• Develop advanced differential systems (front and rear) including limited-slip, torque-vectoring, and electronic-locking differentials to optimize traction and handling for on-road and off-road use.
• Support comprehensive DVP&R test plans and validation activities across bench, dynamometer, and vehicle tests; analyze results and drive iterative design improvements.
• Troubleshoot driveline-related issues, perform root cause analyses (5-Whys, Fishbone), and implement effective design or process changes.
• Collaborate with Vehicle Dynamics, Suspension, Powertrain, NVH, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure seamless integration and packaging.
• Coordinate with suppliers, review supplier designs, and support supplier development and manufacturing processes.
• Ensure designs comply with FMVSS, SAE standards, and other regulatory requirements; translate standards into specifications and validation plans.
• Create detailed engineering documentation and 3D/2D CAD models in CATIA V5/V6, NX, or SolidWorks; apply GD&T and develop DFMEAs, design reviews, and technical reports.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers; drive innovation and continuous improvement in driveline efficiency and durability.
• Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in chassis and suspension design with a focus on driveline systems.
• Experience with pickup trucks, SUVs, or off-road vehicles is highly preferred.
• Experience working on electric or hybrid vehicle suspension systems.
• Knowledge of ride and handling, off-road performance, and NVH considerations for heavy-duty trucks and SUVs; solid axle and independent suspension systems experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with CAD software (CATIA V6, NX, SolidWorks); CATIA V5 experience highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of vehicle body, NVH performance, and regulatory requirements.
