About the Role Create Climax is one of the leading creative lights of independent games development with an outstanding line of top published titles. It truly is an exciting and inspiring place to work and you'll be based out of our Edinburgh studio based in the heart of the city overlooking the historic castle. We are seeking an onsite Character Artist. You will be able to provide us with examples of beautifully constructed characters, clean geometry, texture and material work. You will have a number of years’ experience as a Character artist in the industry with at least one published game to your name. As part of our Character Art team, you will be asked to utilise your wealth of experience in conceptualising, modelling, and texturing to tell stories through beautifully crafted characters.
What You'll Do
- Create and deliver high-quality character models with clean geometry, textures, and materials.
- Conceptualize, model, and texture characters to tell stories through well-crafted visuals.
- Demonstrate solid topology, UVs, and texturing; maintain anatomy and readability.
- Work with Maya, ZBrush; Photoshop foundation; collaborate with Unreal Engine 4/5 usage.
- Utilize Marvelous Designer and/or scan development pipelines when beneficial.
- Apply facial blendshapes and wrinkle maps to characters.
- Perform hair authoring (full strand-based and hair cards).
- Contribute to hard surface work and overall character look development.
- Maintain a strong portfolio and be prepared to share CV/cover letter and portfolio link for assessment.
What We're Looking For
- A number of years’ experience as a Character Artist in the industry with at least one published game.
- Creative flare with core fundamentals such as solid topology, UVs, and texturing; strong eye for form, shape, composition, and storytelling.
- Deep understanding of Maya and ZBrush; proven foundation in Photoshop.
- A strong folio with a wide range of examples demonstrating flexibility.
- Good working knowledge of Unreal Engine 4/5; beneficial experience with Marvelous Designer and/or scan development pipelines.
- Experience with facial blendshapes and wrinkle maps.
- Hair authoring experience (full strand-based and hair cards).
- Solid knowledge of anatomy and examples of hard surface work.
Nice to Have
- Good working knowledge of Unreal Engine 4/5; experience with Marvelous Designer and/or scan development pipelines (beneficial).
