Job title: Chair, Department of Diagnostic, Surgical, and Integrated Sciences, and Associate Clinical/Clinical Professor
About the Role The University of New England College of Dental Medicine invites applications for Chair of the Department of Diagnostic, Surgical, and Integrated Sciences. This is a full-time, 12-month clinical track faculty appointment at the Associate Clinical Professor/Clinical Professor rank with an administrative appointment as Department Chair. The Chair provides strategic leadership for a department spanning multiple disciplines and reports to the Dean to advance teaching, scholarship, service, and curriculum development.
What You'll Do
- Provide strong leadership in teaching, scholarship, service to the department, and curriculum content
- Collaborate with collegiate leadership and other departments
- Develop and mentor faculty
- Cultivate an environment of inclusion and respect for students, faculty, and professional staff
- Oversee general operations: administrative, instructional, and fiscal functions
- Manage faculty scheduling/coverage for patient care, simulation clinic, courses, advanced standing track, IPE and IPP activities, and student research
- Ensure compliance with University/College policies and procedures
- Ensure high-quality, integrated, innovative, evidence-based teaching aligned with CODA standards and UNE CDM competency statements; manage curricular content and outcomes assessment
- Recruit, interview, onboard, coach, mentor, and develop faculty; conduct teaching reviews; participate in annual reviews; institute corrective actions when needed
- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and community; support the College's mission; serve as a visionary leader for the Department; advance strategic initiatives and College activity
- Direct supervision of full-time, half-time, and adjunct faculty within the department
What We're Looking For
- D.D.S./D.M.D. or international equivalent with NBDE Parts I & II or INBDE and a regional licensure exam; CODA-accredited graduate program and eligibility for Board Certification if applicable
- Eligible for or board-certified; eligible for and active Maine Board of Dental Practice licensure by start date
- Demonstrated leadership experience and a strong record in teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor rank
- Preference for advanced experience in one of the department’s disciplines; strong program management and collaborative-team experience desirable
- Passion for diagnostic, surgical, and integrated sciences and for dental education
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
