About this role

About the Role The Ceramics Program Coordinator oversees the Ceramic Studio Spaces and the Ceramic Studio Membership Space at ArtsQuest Creative Factory, powered by PPL. This role ensures smooth daily operations, kiln firings, materials management, and the development of ceramic-focused programs, in collaboration with the Manager of Visual Arts, the Visual Arts & Education Department, and ArtsQuest Retail. What You'll Do

  • Independently load and unload kilns and fire electric and computer-controlled kilns as needed for student and member work.
  • Monitor, maintain, and repair classroom and studio equipment; oversee repairs as needed.
  • Track and manage inventory of clay, glazes, tools, and other supplies; order materials and schedule deliveries.
  • Maintain clean, safe studio spaces and provide mandatory safety orientations to all new Teaching Artists and students; offer additional trainings as requested.
  • Facilitate Ceramic open studio sessions twice weekly as part of the weekly schedule.
  • Assist in developing annual ceramic program and classroom budget; monitor spending and revenue goals; draft separate budgets or P&L for ceramic-focused programs as needed.
  • Collaborate with the ArtsQuest Retail Department and the Manager of Visual Arts on ceramic production items for ArtsQuest; support artist selection for the first-floor retail consignment program.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Manager of Visual Arts and participate in Visual Arts & Education Team Meetings.
  • Oversee the selection of ceramic artists for ArtsQuest Studio Membership Program and serve as the primary liaison between members and ArtsQuest staff.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures aligned with classroom operations across the ArtsQuest Creative Factory; maintain calendars and documentation; foster a strong sense of community and open communication.
  • This role may include periodic teaching opportunities as an independent contractor. What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree (BFA/BA) from an accredited college/university; ideally in Ceramics.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in an academic, non-profit, or community studio/classroom setting; teaching experience preferred.
  • Kiln management expertise: loading/unloading, firing, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and instruct others in studio equipment (glazes, pugging/reclaiming clay, pug mill, wheels, slab rollers).
  • Familiarity with different clay bodies and glaze formulations; Cone 6 firing knowledge.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and sustainable practices in classroom settings.
  • Strong administrative skills and ability to work independently with good judgment; excellent communication and collaboration. Nice to Have
  • Experience selecting ceramic artists for ArtsQuest Studio Membership Program and coordinating artist consignments.
  • Experience developing ceramic production items for ArtsQuest retail.
  • Prior teaching experience and willingness to teach classes or workshops as needed. Compensation & Benefits
