Job title: Casual Physical Testing Laboratory Technician
About the Role Join ALS Coal – Newcastle, NSW as a Casual Physical Testing Laboratory Technician. Based at our Mayfield site, you will perform physical coal testing, sample preparation and data entry on a rotating day/afternoon/night shift roster, with optional overtime during busy periods.
What You'll Do
- Carry out safe and efficient work practices and handle coal samples according to instructions and best methods.
- Load and unload coal samples from various plant streams and perform a range of physical tests including sample preparation, sizing, crushing, dividing and sample storage.
- Transfer validated results into the reporting system and assist with calibration and maintenance of specialised equipment.
What We're Looking For
- A valid driver’s license and current rights to work in Australia (citizen, permanent resident, or visa).
- Strong focus on safety, quality and teamwork; good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Ability to organise work, multi-task and meet tight deadlines; capable of working independently.
- Comfortable with safe manual handling duties, including repetitive lifting; adaptable to shift work and weekend work as required.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new systems; previous coal sampling experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
Nice to Have
- Experience with coal sampling is advantageous.
- Familiarity with calibration/maintenance of laboratory equipment.
