Cash Application Specialist

We are looking for a detail-oriented Cash Application Specialist to join a team in Houston, Texas. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who enjoys high-volume payment processing, accurate cash posting, and resolving reconciliation issues in a fast-paced accounts receivable environment. The person in this role will support timely application of incoming funds, maintain clean records, and help ensure financing-related transactions are recorded correctly.

Responsibilities

• Apply a high volume of incoming payments received through checks, wire transfers, credit cards, and other payment methods with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness.

• Review remittance documentation and determine how funds should be posted so customer accounts reflect the correct balances.

• Reconcile financing and third-party funded transactions to confirm all activity is properly recorded in the accounts receivable system.

• Investigate payment discrepancies, unapplied cash, and short-pay situations, then take appropriate steps to resolve outstanding issues.

• Maintain detailed cash application records and support month-end account balancing activities related to receivables.

• Use Sage Intacct to enter, track, and verify payment activity while keeping account information organized and current.

• Prepare and analyze spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, including lookups and summary reporting, to support reconciliation and cash posting work.

• At least 2 years of experience in cash application, accounts receivable, or a closely related accounting support role.

• Demonstrated success processing large volumes of payments across multiple forms, including checks, wires, and credit cards.

• Experience reconciling customer payments and identifying issues that affect accurate application of cash.

• Ability to interpret remittance advice and apply payments correctly based on supporting documentation.

• Working knowledge of Sage Intacct in a finance or accounting environment.

• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and PivotTables.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy in a deadline-driven setting.
