About this role

About the Role The Case Manager will provide comprehensive, trauma-informed case management services to residents of Sanctuary for Families’ crisis shelters, helping them achieve safety and self-sufficiency. This role is based at our stand-alone Brooklyn shelter (5 families) and will also travel to three additional dwellings for intakes, discharges, and inspections as needed to support the residential team. What You'll Do

  • Assess immediate needs of crisis shelter residents and make referrals, including coordinating with health clinics and hospitals for appointments, and following up on these appointments.
  • Assist residents in obtaining public benefits (e.g., Medicaid, SNAP, housing, SSI, childcare subsidies).
  • Complete shelter assessments; travel to three dwellings for intakes and discharges; conduct apartment inspections at all dwellings (at least twice a month) including Rosa Parks.
  • Complete and submit NOVA packets and ADVENT transfers as required.
  • Support residents’ self-sufficiency through referrals for counseling, financial counseling, ESOL classes, job readiness programs, and higher education; complete economic assessments.
  • Accompany clients to appointments; assist with housing processes (DOE busing, metro cards, school placements) and coordinate housing packets with HRA/HPD.
  • Communicate with hospital staff during hospitalizations and document shelter absences; refer clients to legal and social services as needed.
  • Advocate for clients, prepare requests for educational and financial assistance, and maintain accurate case records in Sanctuary’s Service Tracking System; prepare monthly statistics.
  • Assist with children’s schooling and school placements, including enrollment, transportation, and related paperwork; coordinate special events for clients; provide hotline backup; on-site coverage at Rosa Parks and when the Program Manager is absent.
  • Perform other department or agency duties or special projects as directed. What We're Looking For
  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in the social services field, preferably in domestic violence.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish or an additional community language strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Nice to Have
  • Additional experience with housing systems (HRA/HPD) or shelter operations.
  • Experience in trauma-informed care and advocacy for survivors of gender-based violence. Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $29.73 - $32.84 per hour, annualized about $54,108 - $59,769 per year, based on experience and wage scale under a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Schedule: Full-time (35 hours/week); in-person/onsite.
