About the Role The University of Delaware is seeking a skilled journeyman carpenter to perform a wide range of carpentry work within Facilities Services and Campus Planning. The role involves constructing and repairing wood structures, installing cabinets and drywall, and reading blueprints to meet trade standards on UD campuses.

What You'll Do

• Performs rough and finished carpentry; builds/constructs partitions, joists, studding, rafters, wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors; cuts, fits, installs, and repairs cabinets and drywall to specifications.
• Modifies, repairs, and maintains buildings and building surfaces; inspects, repairs and/or replaces ceiling tiles.
• Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints and drawings; creates sketches of items or modifications; schedules and coordinates work; provides rough estimates and lays out scope of work.
• Performs hand and bench work in the Carpenter Shop or at the job site; operates planers, jointers, drill presses, power saws, routers, and other woodworking machinery.
• Assembles, repairs and/or modifies furniture; repairs and sharpens hand and machine tools.
• Assists other structural trades personnel (e.g., roofing, drywall repair, window replacement).
• Uses computer to access e-mail and receive work instructions; communicates daily using a two-way radio or similar device.
• Ensures shop equipment is in proper working condition; maintains a clean, safe work environment.
• Mixes, matches, and applies stains, dyes, and finishes; stores and disposes of materials properly; matches lumber types and grades.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• Journeyman-level carpentry experience across all phases (finished, rough framing, and construction).
• Knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, tools, and equipment to construct, erect, install, maintain, and repair wood structures, fixtures, concrete building forms, and acoustical ceiling tiles.
• Ability to read blueprints/drawings and create sketches; excellent estimating and layout skills.
• Proficiency operating woodworking machinery (planers, jointers, drill presses, power saws, routers).
• Ability to schedule and coordinate work and to assist other trades as needed.
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in a range of temperatures and conditions.

Compensation & Benefits

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; onsite at Newark, DE.
