About the Role The Career Development Coach supports the Illinois Tech Career Services office by delivering coaching, program management, and career development support to students and alumni. The role focuses on helping individuals develop job search strategies, identify employment opportunities, and prepare for the transition from Illinois Tech to professional careers. The position also involves training and supervising a small team of student workers to support front desk operations and peer coaching.
What You'll Do
- Provide coaching, guidance, and support to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni; assist with resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, and job search strategies tailored to majors; help identify employment opportunities.
- Plan and conduct career development programming (Career Fairs, Spotlight Sessions, Student Organization Events, Summer Orientations, Resource Fairs, On-campus Interviews) and support other Career Services activities.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with faculty, staff, and student organizations to promote career development programs and integrate career readiness into academic and co-curricular initiatives.
- Train and supervise 4-7 student workers (front desk team and peer career coaches), including program development and performance oversight.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred; or equivalent combination.
- Solid knowledge of career counseling, assessment tools, development theories.
- Strong job search skills (resume writing, interviewing, networking) and ability to coach others.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple programs and deadlines.
- Experience with multicultural and multiethnic populations; commitment to inclusion and confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to extract and analyze data for reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective public speaking and presentations.
- Ability to problem solve, think critically, and explain decisions rationally.
- Comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders (students, alumni, staff, faculty).
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
- Knowledge of career development theory.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Handshake or similar career management systems (a plus)
- Experience with event planning or supervising student workers.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $50,000-$55,000 per year.
