Campus Safety Officer
Occidental College is seeking a Campus Safety Officer to serve as the frontline safety presence across campus, adjacent properties, and Greek housing. The role involves high-visibility patrols, emergency response, incident documentation, and access control to support a safe and secure campus environment. Reports to a Campus Safety Sergeant or Corporal.
What You'll Do
- Perform high-visibility vehicle and foot patrols on campus, at adjacent rental homes, and at sorority/fraternity houses to deter crime and apprehend lawbreakers.
- Enforce parking and vehicle permits.
- Respond to requests for assistance and to emergency calls, fire alarms, and intrusions on campus and rental properties.
- Prepare incident reports, write work requests, and maintain a daily log of shift activities.
- Provide safety escorts and access to buildings for authorized persons; support college events on and off campus.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent; one year of security experience or equivalent training.
- Valid California BSIS guard card; first aid and CPR certification.
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record; eligible to be designated Occidental College driver.
- Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication; ability to work any shift.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Drive/Forms.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume, confidential environment.
- Commitment to teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to collaborate across functions.
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently; demonstrated leadership and training capability.
Nice to Have
- POST 832 P.C. and/or 832.2 P.C. course(s), SB390, AB1626, or police academy training.
- Experience in campus safety/security on a college or university campus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hiring range: $20.00/hr - $22.00/hr.
