About the Role Connecticut College is hiring a part-time/on-call Campus Safety Officer for the academic year (40 weeks) with up to 16 hours per week scheduled, and additional on-call hours as needed for the full year (52 weeks). The Campus Safety Department operates 24/7 on campus. Under direct supervision, Campus Safety Officers maintain security of persons and property, perform routine security and safety patrols, remain alert to emergency situations and provide first-line response and emergency management. Officers will rotate through the Dispatch Center as part of daily operations, which serves as the 24/7 Communications and Resource Center for the Department of Campus Safety. What You'll Do

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, honesty and integrity; be courteous and polite in all interactions; enforce all College rules and regulations.
  • Provide physical security of all college buildings, leased buildings, and property on and off campus; conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols; ensure visible presence in residential halls and key spaces.
  • Respond to emergency calls, conduct preliminary investigations, assess situations, and assist or obtain necessary support services; prepare detailed reports of investigations, complaints and calls for service; transport sick or injured students to College Student Health Services when necessary.
  • Identify and remove unauthorized persons or vehicles from college property, including issuing parking tickets and moving violations; provide access to Residence Halls and Academic Buildings when necessary.
  • Dispatch Center duties: receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls; dispatch security personnel to incidents; monitor security cameras and alarms; maintain communication with on-duty officers; coordinate with other campus departments in emergencies; track shift activities (data entry of Daily Patrol Sheets/Activity logs); manage key control and the key log; submit work requests to Facilities Management for issues identified during the shift. What We're Looking For
  • Ability to work a part-time/on-call schedule (up to 16 hours per week during the academic year, with potential additional on-call hours) and be available for full-year on-call needs.
  • Ability to perform foot and vehicle patrols, respond to emergency calls, enforce College rules and regulations, and maintain professionalism and integrity.
  • Ability to prepare thorough reports, conduct preliminary investigations, and coordinate with College Student Health Services when necessary.
  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and unauthorized persons or vehicles, and manage access to Residence Halls and Academic Buildings.
  • Ability to operate Dispatch Center functions: receive calls, dispatch security personnel, monitor cameras and alarms, maintain logs, manage key control, and liaise with Facilities.
