Campus Safety Officer (C-Shift)

About the Role The Campus Safety Officer (C-Shift) is an essential employee responsible for performing general and varied duty campus safety/security work in the protection of people and property, with the goal of fostering a positive culture of safety across the Nazareth University community. As a university authority, the Officer enforces federal and state laws and Nazareth University policies, builds positive relationships with students, faculty, staff and departments, and serves as the primary first responder to emergencies campus-wide. The role operates 24 hours a day in all conditions and involves documentation of activities and situations across the University. What You'll Do

• Patrol the campus to observe, report, deter suspicious or criminal activity, respond to emergencies, document incidents, and take appropriate actions per New York State laws and Nazareth University policies.
• Respond to major emergencies (medical, fire, mental health, auto accidents, etc.) and initiate appropriate departmental procedures.
• Ensure that campus buildings are secured and unlocked according to hours and special requests.
• Provide miscellaneous assistance (vehicle assists, lockouts, escorts, information requests, transports).
• Complete required Daily Activity Logs, Incident Reports, Building Inspection Reports, and related investigations.
• Issue parking/moving violation tickets for campus motor vehicle infractions.
• Adhere to fire safety codes (fire extinguisher inspections, drills, building inspections) and address hazards or defects.
• Deliver quality service to students and the Nazareth community and act as a representative of the University to external organizations.
• Promote the University mission and participate in diversity initiatives to support an inclusive workforce.
• Maintain professionalism, efficiency, and a positive attitude; participate annually in professional development to enhance technical and other skills.
• Communicate effectively with all members of the Nazareth community and outside emergency services.
• Maintain a valid Driver’s License and a driving record meeting Nazareth University’s defensive driver standards; current NYS Security Guard certification/registration.
• Obtain CPR/AED, emergency oxygen, and first aid certifications within 90 days of employment; obtain Narcan, Crowd Management, Defensive Driving, driver orientation, Bloodborne pathogens, and Campus Security Authority status within 90 days.
• Complete additional training in accident/injury response and documentation, investigations, and response to carbon monoxide and oxygen-deficient alarms.
• Ability to handle sensitive data, manage high-pressure emergencies, prioritize multiple tasks, and exercise good judgment under pressure. What We're Looking For
• Valid Driver’s License with a driving record meeting Nazareth University defensive driver standards.
• NYS Security Guard certification/registration (current).
• Willingness to obtain CPR/AED, emergency oxygen, and first aid within 90 days of employment.
• Willingness to obtain Narcan, Crowd Management, Defensive Driving, driver orientation, Bloodborne pathogens, and Campus Security Authority status within 90 days.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse university community and outside emergency services.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and handle emergency situations calmly and professionally.

• Salary: $17.75 per hour with incentives to raise pay at 6 and 18 months for Officers performing well.
• Work hours: 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
• 12-month position with full-time status.
