As a Practice Leader, you will help shape and implement growth strategies, expand client relationships, guide strategic pursuits, and support the delivery of exceptional environmental consulting services. This position is ideal for a collaborative business leader who combines strong client focus, market knowledge, technical credibility, financial acumen, and a passion for building high-performing teams.

Your Key Responsibilities

Identify, lead, and support strategic pursuits, proposals, interviews, and growth initiatives across Environmental Services and related markets.

Build and strengthen client relationships by serving as a trusted advisor and client manager for key clients.

Develop and implement client relationship strategies that support long-term growth, client satisfaction, and repeat business.

Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, account managers, and regional leadership to align opportunities with client needs and Stantec’s capabilities.

Promote a positive, growth-oriented culture focused on quality, accountability, collaboration, and client service.

Business Development and Collaboration

Lead business development planning, key pursuit strategies, and client account planning to support revenue growth and market expansion.

Identify, qualify, and advance new opportunities through disciplined pursuit planning and effective go/no-go decision-making.

Champion collaboration across geographies, technical practices, and business lines to deliver integrated solutions for clients.

Support cross-selling of Stantec’s services by connecting client needs with the depth of expertise available across the organization.

Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, client priorities, competitor activity, and emerging growth opportunities.

Increase Stantec’s visibility through client engagement, professional networks, conferences, industry organizations, and thought leadership.

Use business planning tools to track opportunities, forecast work, and support resource planning.

Project Delivery and Practice Excellence

Participate in project delivery in appropriate leadership, advisory, review, or quality roles including project management and/or technical roles.

Support project excellence by promoting strong project management, technical quality, risk management, and quality assurance practices.

Help teams deliver work safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Stantec’s quality, health, safety, security, and environmental expectations.

Support innovation, sustainable solutions, technology adoption, and continuous improvement in the delivery of environmental services.

Leadership and Team Development

Inspire, mentor, and support teams in delivering high-quality work and exceptional client service.

Help develop, attract, engage, and retain talent through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and career development.

Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable environment where employees are connected to the business strategy and understand how their work contributes to shared success.

Work with operations and business leadership to support staffing, utilization, backlog, and work-sharing goals.

Serve as a respected leader, thought partner, and source of counsel for staff, clients, and leadership teams.

Business and Financial Management

Support annual business planning, revenue forecasting, and growth planning in collaboration with business and operations leaders.

Contribute to achieving financial performance goals, including revenue growth, backlog, gross margin, utilization, and marketing and business development spend.

Apply strong business judgment to pursuit decisions, commercial terms, risk management, and client account planning.

Partner with leadership to identify performance risks, develop action plans, and support sustainable business performance.

Promote ethical business practices, individual integrity, and a strong focus on client service and delivery excellence

Health, Safety, Security, and Environment

  • Promote Stantec’s strong safety culture by supporting health, safety, security, and environmental performance across projects, offices, and field activities. This includes reinforcing safe work practices, supporting continuous improvement, and helping teams identify and manage project and operational risks.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Demonstrated leadership in environmental consulting, business development, account management, and project delivery.

Strong ability to develop client relationships, lead strategic pursuits, and grow revenue in a professional services environment.

Proven ability to collaborate across technical disciplines, offices, and regions.

Strong business and financial acumen, including experience with forecasting, budgets, contracts, commercial terms, and risk-based decision-making.

Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, organization, and team-building skills.

Ability to mentor staff, build trust, promote accountability, and support a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Commitment to health, safety, quality, ethics, and client service.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, planning, engineering, natural resources, geology, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years of related experience in environmental consulting, business development, leadership, project management, and/or financial management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Professional registration, certification, or licensure in a related field is preferred, where applicable.

Experience leading strategic accounts, major pursuits, multidisciplinary teams, and complex environmental projects is strongly preferred.

Pay Range:

  • Various Locations in ME, VA-$148,100.00 - $229,600.00 Annually

  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$164,600.00 - $255,100.00 Annually

  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$194,200.00 - $301,000.00 Annually Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
