About this role

About the Role The Business Accounting Advisor will report to the Head of Business Accounting & Policy and be a key member of the Chennai team delivering accounting advice and support across Shell’s business segments, including complex issues and material deals. This role sits within the Controllers organisation’s Group Reporting function, which handles external and internal reporting and analysis of Shell’s global financial results, and provides accounting support on deals, new business development, and complex interpretation issues across Shell’s businesses globally.

What You'll Do

  • Acting as an accounting advisor on a variety of deals and NBD activities, working closely with colleagues across Finance (incl. FTM, tax and treasury) and the business to determine the appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions under IFRS.
  • Preparation of Group Audit Review Papers (“GARPs”) on complex issues, including close liaison with EY on review and audit progress.
  • Working closely with business PAR teams (incl. VP PAR) and supporting Segment Leads on managing segmental accounting topics, such as portfolio activity and impairment reviews.
  • Providing advice and support to R&A teams on the interpretation of accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on specific accounting areas, providing support and advice to colleagues on judgements and interpretation.
  • Reviewing and challenging quarterly segmental results, including risk-based review of balance sheet, cash flow and income statement variances to gain comfort over the accuracy and integrity of our reported results.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with other Group Reporting teams (Reporting, Business Systems, Tax Reporting and Sustainability), supporting them on business-specific insights.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified accountant (CA) with strong accounting advisory experience and solid IFRS/ Ind AS application.
  • Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Keen interest in financial reporting and the ability to articulate complex issues to others in a simple and accessible way.
  • Ability to distill complex issues into clear, non-technical language.
  • Ability to articulate a clear problem statement from ambiguous and conflicting information, and comfortable proposing solutions for issues with no clear precedent.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with periods of higher workload.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills at senior executive level.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines within a diverse team.
  • Strong digital capability ability to demonstrate new-age digital tools in the field of work.
