Job title: Bus Mechanic/Journeyman
About the Role The Ferguson-Florissant Transportation Department seeks a skilled Journeyman Mechanic to maintain and repair the district’s gasoline and diesel fleet, ensuring safety and reliability on every route. You are the technical backbone keeping students moving and routes on schedule.
What You'll Do
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a diverse fleet of gasoline and diesel engines to high industry standards.
- Use state-of-the-art electronic diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Repair and maintain air brake systems, ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
- Weld and fabricate to repair equipment and maintain long-term fleet integrity; support snow removal and other emergency operations as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, safe shop and assist with emergency operations when needed, including snow removal.
- When necessary, drive a school bus to ensure routes stay active and students are never stranded.
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with both gasoline and diesel engines.
- Proficiency with electronic diagnostic equipment and working knowledge of air brakes.
- Experience with heavy-duty welding and operating shop machinery.
- Ability to obtain a State Vehicle Inspector’s License and a license to drive a School Bus.
- Physical resilience to perform heavy lifting and manual tasks in a commercial vehicle shop.
- A team player capable of thriving in a fast-paced, professional shop.

- Willingness to perform snow removal and other emergency operations.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $18.93 - $28.69 per hour.
