About the Role The Bus Driver I position at California Baptist University operates a university bus to transport passengers safely to and from campus destinations on scheduled routes. The role includes maintaining trip records, ensuring vehicle safety and readiness, and supporting the mission of the university and Athletics Department.
What You'll Do
- Drive CBU buses for transporting passengers on scheduled routes to and from campus in a safe and timely manner.
- Maintain records including driving time, purpose of trip, mileage, and vehicle maintenance.
- Comply with traffic and highway safety rules and regulations.
- Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required and ensure the bus is safely and securely stored.
- Assess incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergencies and resolve or recommend solutions.
- Assist students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading during normal transport and emergency situations.
- Fuel and perform routine checks to maintain safe operating condition of the vehicle; perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Maintain and keep log book or Electronic Logging Device accurate for CHP inspection; report defects to supervisor.
- Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes and other passengers.
- Understand and abide by the mission of CBU and the Athletics Department.
- Possess a valid California Class B driver’s license with a passenger endorsement, medical card, and a clean DMV record.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid California Class B driver's license with passenger endorsement, medical card, and a clean DMV record.
- Ability to operate light- to heavy-duty passenger vehicles (Class 1–3, 4–6, with airbrake endorsement for Class 7–8).
- Ability to pass random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively; ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to gather data, enter information into recordkeeping systems, and resolve customer concerns.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments; ability to create and edit written materials.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation: $24.72 per hour; plus a robust suite of employee benefits.
