This is a flex/freelance, variable-hour position. Fluency in Japanese is required for this role (you must be able to read, write and speak Japanese).
Job Summary
The Control Room Technician (Japanese Language) is a multi-skilled control room operator who covers the Carousel Operator, Image Operator/AD (including Xpression), Remote Production, and Prompter functions for live broadcast production. This is a flex, non-exempt position with variable hours, located in Midtown Manhattan.
The primary focus is to create and operate livestream broadcasts that meet quality standards and deadlines. The technician maintains comprehensive tracking documents, works closely with the producer team on incoming requests and changes, and manages ASIN and SKU information to keep live productions running smoothly. The role calls for a high level of customer service and a solutions-oriented approach. Must be able to read, write, and speak Japanese fluently.
Essential Functions
Carousel Operator

Manage the creation of all broadcasts.

Perform quality control on all video output.

Own and maintain the tracking documents that hold all broadcast information.

Collaborate daily with the producer team to manage incoming requests and all changes.

Add all ASIN and SKU information to broadcasts.

Manage broadcast creation and influencer proxy access for all channels.
-
Diagnose issues in the Creator App and troubleshoot with the product team.

Create and maintain SOPs for daily functions and new developments.

Stay in close and frequent communication with the control room team, including the director.

Moderate live chats.
-
Manage and track rollout videos.
-
Start, stop, monitor, and configure streaming encoders and streaming apps such as Restream, AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaConnect, AWS CloudWatch, AWS S3, EEG Falcon, and EEG Lexi.

Monitor livestreams to confirm proper audio, video, captions, lip sync, and stream stability.

Manage and set closed captioning.
Image Operator/AD and Xpression
-
Build and prepare graphic assets, including full-frame images and B-roll, and operate all livestream broadcasts.

Assist the director with rundown timing.

Manage rundowns in Shoflo and Airtable.

Set up Xpression before each stream so the director can control it remotely.

Manipulate and operate graphics in Xpression, working from assets built by the graphics department.

Create Welcome Slates for tours.

Assign graphics to triggers.
-
Communicate with the graphics department about any graphical changes or missing elements.

Stay current on the Client's live streaming trends, features, and best practices to continually improve the effectiveness and relevance of live streaming efforts.
Remote Production
-
Manage screen grabs of remote sets and document them in Airtable.

Analyze and deliver critical data to the production crew through internal tools as needed.

Decide on remote stream content placement and oversee trafficking.

Operate independently in a directorial way by setting up shots and identifying optimal camera movements.

Partner with the technical director (TD), the director, and the engineering team to onboard and manage the flow of remote guests.

Greet remote talent and guests, make sure they are prepared, and give them the tools and guidance needed for production.

Manage the communication lines between the control room, remote talent, and remote crew.

Work directly with the producer team, talent, and talent teams.
Prompter
-
Roll the prompter during in-studio shows.

Manage product pages of the show for talent.

Work with talent on font sizing.

Required Education and Experience

Must be able to read, write, and speak Japanese fluently.

High school diploma.

Advanced experience with OBS software.

Experience operating live streaming encoders and streaming applications, and monitoring livestreams for audio, video, captions, lip sync, and stream stability.

Experience supporting live productions in a control room, working with directors, producers, and talent.

Experience managing rundowns and tracking documents in tools such as Shoflo and Airtable.

Experience in television, film, or post-production.

Basic computer knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience operating Xpression or comparable broadcast graphics software, including setting up, loading, and triggering graphics.

Experience with cloud and hardware streaming tools, such as AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaConnect, AWS CloudWatch, AWS S3, EEG Falcon, and EEG Lexi.

Experience operating a teleprompter.

Experience in light editing work and/or associate producer roles.
