Job description
About EDV
Eating disorders are complex and debilitating mental illnesses that affect up to 1 in 10 people. Like any mental health disorder, they are not the fault of the individual and can affect anyone no matter their age, gender or background. While serious, eating disorders are treatable. With the right support, full recovery is possible for everyone.
Eating Disorders Victoria is the trusted guide for Victorians affected by eating disorders. We help people get the support they need to inspire hope and ensure the earliest possible recovery.
We are a committed, engaged and progressive community health service who value innovation. We are known for developing and delivering eating disorder services that can't be found anywhere else in Australia, or even the world. We are a strong voice for people affected by eating disorders and actively advocate for our eating disorder affected community at state and national level.
All of our work is guided by our values of Courage, Authenticity, Optimism and Lived Experience.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a new board member to join our committed and skilled board of up to 9 directors. This is an opportunity to contribute your strategic thinking, networks, and expertise to an organisation making a real difference in the lives of Victorians affected by eating disorders.
This voluntary role involves providing strategic oversight and governance, with approximately 8-10 hours commitment per month including attendance at board meetings and participation in board sub-committees (approximately 15 meetings per year, predominantly online).
We’re proud to have such an engaged, passionate and committed Board of Directors. Get to know the EDV board: https://eatingdisorders.org.au/about-us/our-people/
What We're Looking For
The Board is seeking a director with strong credentials in finance, audit, or risk governance, and the capability to step into a sub-committee chair role.
Essential:
- Senior executive or board-level experience in finance, accounting, audit, or risk
- Finance qualifications and membership (i.e.. CPA or Chartered Accountant)
- Demonstrated experience in financial oversight at a governance level
- Experience serving on or chairing a Finance, Audit and/or Risk Committee
- Understanding of governance in not-for-profit or regulated environments
Desirable:
- Experience in health, social services, or community sectors
- Knowledge of government-funded environments
- AICD (GAICD) or equivalent governance qualification
Lived Experience
We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of an eating disorder (as someone who has recovered or is in recovery) or from those who have been carers, families, or supporters of someone affected by an eating disorder.
We value board members who are willing to share their lived experience publicly (for example, in board member biographies on our website) so that our community can see themselves represented at governance level and know that board directors understand the issues they face.
At EDV we have a commitment to supporting board members with lived experience and highly encourage those with lived experience to apply.
Our Commitment to Diversity
EDV is committed to ensuring that we reflect the rich diversity of the Victorian and eating disorders community. We strongly encourage applications from people of all ages, Aboriginal people, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and from lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse, intersex and queer people. We will provide adjustments to the recruitment process upon request.
