About the Role ARLNH is seeking engaged individuals to join its Board of Directors as Board Members to help govern the nonprofit, advance its mission, and guide fundraising and community engagement. What You'll Do
- Act as an advocate and ambassador for ARLNH values, mission, and vision; maintain confidentiality; support Board decisions; prepare for and participate in Board and committee meetings with thoughtful dialogue.
- Engage in fundraising and donor development: reach into diverse communities, cultivate donor relationships, participate in fund development tasks, donor solicitation, event sponsorships, and volunteering at ARLNH events (e.g., Bidding for Paws Auction, Howl-O-Ween 5k).
- Leverage personal and professional networks to benefit ARLNH while upholding ethics; be prepared to serve as a committee or task force chair or member.
- Stay informed about ARLNH issues and community connections through active participation within the organization and conscientious outreach outside the organization.
- Inform the Board of Directors of any potential conflicts of interest and adhere to the Board's decisions; respect the authority of staff and adhere to the limits of the Board and its committees.
- Bring your personal or professional expertise in a designated area to the ARLNH.
- Attend meetings regularly; review materials in advance; prepare for discussions and participate in dialogue.
- Be available to support the organization in other governance activities and, if needed, step down if unable to fulfill expectations. What We're Looking For
- Belief in and commitment to ARLNH's mission; act as an active advocate and ambassador; work collaboratively with fellow Board members and staff.
- Regular attendance at Board and committee meetings; preparation to contribute to strategic discussions.
- Willingness to disclose potential conflicts of interest and to abide by Board decisions.
- Availability to serve as a committee or task force chair or member; be a prepared and active participant.
- Respect for the authority of the Chief of Staff and staff; understanding the limits of the Board and its committees.
- Interest and ability to contribute to fundraising and donor development, including leveraging networks to identify donors and supporters.
- Willingness to engage with diverse communities and to help cultivate relationships as donors, volunteers, and advocates.
- Openness to bringing your expertise to ARLNH and to consider fostering involvement with the animals if interested.
