About the Role Cape Fox Facilities Services is seeking a Biologist to support the Laboratory of Bacteriology (LB) within the NIH Division of Intramural Research (DIR) - RML, Hamilton, MT. This exempt, full-time position pays $37.60 per hour for up to 40 hours per week and offers benefits including holidays, paid leave, health/dental/vision insurance, life and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, and 401K with company match. The role involves working in high-containment BSL-3 facilities to support research on priority pathogens and related work across the lab.
What You'll Do
- Perform complex experimental procedures involving sterile cell culture techniques (passaging, cryopreservation, maintenance) of eukaryotic cell lines.
- Conduct standard bacteriological techniques including bacterial stock preparation, scale-up, and characterization.
- Maintain lab records and biospecimen repositories, transfer/removal logs, and BSL-3 lab user records.
- Work in ABSL/BSL-3 environments; complete necessary training and obtain Biosurety clearance.
- Produce and update laboratory reagents; order reagents and equipment, obtain quotes, track orders, manage inventory, and restock.
- Uphold safety and occupational health rules; contribute to a safe workplace.
- Collaborate within a team; possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Assist with in vitro and in vivo research (rodents) in ABSL-3 settings.
- Analyze data and present results; maintain detailed records suitable for NIH or publication.
- Travel up to 10% as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree with at least 1 year of experience or Master’s Degree (thesis preferred).
- Documentation of BSL-3 experience and training.
- Ability to wear PPE including a PAPR breathing hood; read/write/understand English; and receive required vaccinations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Capacity to obtain and maintain NIH Tier 3 elevated security clearance; active status in NIH Biosurety program.
- Flexible hours, ability to work independently and in a team; strong safety mindset and adherence to protocols.
- Willingness to work in high-containment laboratory environments.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree with thesis is preferred.
