Biokineticist

Western Cape, South Africa

About this role

Biokineticist Faircape Health Institute, a division of the Faircape Group, provides comprehensive healthcare services across the Western Cape, with established expertise in sub-acute care, rehabilitation, long-term care, and healthy ageing.

Building on this clinical foundation, we are developing a Longevity and Preventative Health Centre that brings together medicine, advanced diagnostics, exercise science, technology, and personalised health interventions within a multidisciplinary clinical environment.

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Biokineticist to become an integral part of this developing service. We are looking for a dynamic, engaging and evidence-driven practitioner who enjoys working with people, takes initiative, and is confident in a highly visible, patient-facing role. The ideal candidate will be curious about the intersection of exercise science, medicine, technology, and longevity, and will be adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable contributing ideas while helping to build and shape a new service.

This is not a conventional Biokinetics practice. Working alongside our Clinical Lead – Longevity & Preventative Medicine and broader multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will use advanced strength and functional assessment tools, objective performance data, VALD technology, AI-integrated training equipment, and other technologies to assess physical capacity and develop highly personalised interventions.

Central to the role is a closed-loop approach: assess, identify, prescribe, set measurable targets, reassess, and adapt. The Biokineticist will take ownership of this process while also contributing to the development of the protocols, guidelines, and programmes that support the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive biokinetic, physical performance, and functional assessments

  • Utilise advanced assessment technologies and equipment to objectively measure strength, balance, movement, cardiovascular fitness, and functional capacity

  • Interpret assessment and performance data to identify physical limitations, functional risks, and areas for optimisation

  • Establish measurable and individualised physical performance and functional targets

  • Develop highly personalised exercise and physical activity programmes based on assessment findings, medical considerations, and individual goals

  • Implement structured interventions aimed at improving strength, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, balance, body composition, metabolic health, and physical resilience

  • Apply a closed-loop approach to patient management through assessment, identification of needs, personalised prescription, measurable target setting, reassessment, and ongoing programme adaptation

  • Use objective data and technology to monitor progress and evaluate patient outcomes

  • Conduct structured reassessments and adapt interventions according to measurable changes in performance and functional capacity

  • Work with older adults and individuals with chronic disease risk factors, established chronic conditions, functional limitations, or rehabilitation needs

  • Educate and guide patients on exercise, movement, physical activity, and sustainable behavioural change

  • Collaborate closely with medical practitioners, physiotherapists, dieticians, rehabilitation specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team

  • Contribute to the development, testing, and refinement of exercise, assessment, and functional health protocols and clinical guidelines for the Longevity Centre

  • Assist in establishing assessment standards, measurable outcomes, and progression criteria across programmes

  • Identify opportunities to incorporate emerging exercise technologies, assessment tools, and new approaches into the programme

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation and outcome data

  • Remain informed on developments in exercise science, exercise technology, physical performance, and preventative healthcare

  • Ensure all assessments and interventions remain ethical, patient-centred, and within professional scope of practice

  • Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

  • Relevant qualification in Biokinetics from an accredited tertiary institution

  • Current and active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Biokineticist

  • Relevant post-qualification experience in the assessment of physical and functional capacity and the development and delivery of individualised exercise programmes

  • Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, exercise prescription, functional assessment, strength and conditioning principles, and chronic disease risk management

  • Comfortable working with objective physical and performance data and using assessment findings to guide exercise prescription and measurable progression

  • Experience working directly with adult patients or clients across different levels of health, fitness, and functional capacity

  • CPD compliant

  • Experience with older adults, chronic disease, rehabilitation, physical performance testing, advanced functional assessment, or technology-based exercise prescription will be advantageous

  • Exposure to VALD or comparable assessment technology, data-driven exercise platforms, or technology-enabled training equipment will be advantageous

  • Experience within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment will be advantageous

Preference will be given to candidates with experience or interest in:

  • Advanced strength and functional performance testing

  • Performance measurement and objective outcome tracking

  • Technologies such as VALD or similar strength, movement, and performance assessment platforms

  • Technology-enabled and AI-integrated exercise equipment

  • Data-driven exercise prescription and progression

  • Working with older adults

  • Chronic disease prevention and management through exercise

  • Rehabilitation and physical performance testing

  • Cardiovascular fitness and cardiometabolic health

  • Strength, mobility, balance, and functional capacity

  • Development of exercise protocols, clinical pathways, or assessment guidelines

  • Working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams

  • Skills and Attributes

  • Proactive and self-driven, with the initiative to identify what needs to be done and take ownership of delivering it

  • Confident and professional in a front-facing role, with the ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with a diverse range of patients

  • Curious and analytical, with a genuine interest in understanding the data and science behind physical performance and health

  • Strong clinical reasoning and the ability to translate assessment findings into practical, personalised interventions

  • Comfortable taking ownership of a patient's journey from initial assessment through prescription, monitoring, reassessment, and programme adaptation

  • Able to set clear, measurable targets and use objective outcomes to guide decision-making

  • Comfortable adopting new technologies and learning to use advanced assessment and exercise equipment

  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team

  • Strong patient consultation, coaching, and motivational skills

  • Able to explain technical findings and recommendations to patients in a clear, engaging, and understandable way

  • Willing to contribute ideas and take an active role in developing new programmes, protocols, and guidelines

  • Comfortable working within a developing service where initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving are important

  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and outcome measurement

  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication

  • Professional, ethical, accountable, and patient-centred

  • Reliable, consistent, and committed to high standards of care

  • Aligned with Faircape’s values of dignity, integrity, and excellence
