About this role
About the Role The Cardiovascular Genetics Center at UCSF seeks an experienced bioinformatician to facilitate research on inherited cardiovascular disease, gene expression regulation, and personalized genetic medicine. The role involves designing and implementing analysis pipelines and collaborating with principal investigators to translate computational discoveries into clinical insights.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement analysis pipelines for bulk and single-cell multiomics data, epigenomics (ChIP-Seq, CUT&RUN), and imaging data (spatial transcriptomics), and integrate with public and proprietary datasets (UK Biobank, All of Us, Heart Cell Atlas).
- Analyze genome sequencing data (WES/WGS) to identify rare and common variants implicated in cardiovascular disease.
- Develop and apply machine learning algorithms, maintain computational infrastructure, and provide web-based access to databases.
- Collaborate with bench scientists and clinicians in a collaborative scientific environment; assist in experimental design and data interpretation; ensure data security and reproducibility.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, computational/programming, or related field; minimum 3 years of relevant bioinformatics or computational biology experience.
- Proficiency in bioinformatics programming with Python, R, or equivalent; strong understanding of relational databases, web interfaces, and operating systems.
- Strong project management and communication skills; ability to work with technical and non-technical personnel and to interface with management.
- Familiarity with cloud-based computing and high-performance computing environments.
- Proven expertise in analyzing high-throughput sequencing datasets (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, chromatin occupancy).
- Thorough knowledge of genomic databases, tools, and statistical frameworks.
Nice to Have
- PhD in Bioinformatics or a closely related field.
