Job title: Billing Clerk

We are seeking a detail-oriented Billing Clerk to join a finance team in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role focuses on core billing and accounting activities and offers opportunities to grow within a collaborative department.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and process billing transactions accurately and on schedule with complete supporting documentation.
  • Record journal entries and assist with general ledger activity to support timely month-end reporting.
  • Build and maintain Excel spreadsheets using functions such as VLOOKUPs and pivot tables to analyze financial data and track account activity.
  • Investigate billing discrepancies, identify root causes, and resolve issues by working closely with internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor deadlines across assigned accounting tasks and proactively keep work moving without delays.
  • Support day-to-day accounting operations by assisting with reconciliations and ensuring financial records remain organized and current.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvements and adapt to evolving department needs, including potential updates to accounting software.
  • Partner with other accounting team members and finance leadership to handle priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2–3 years of accounting experience, including staff accounting or progression from accounts payable/receivable into broader accounting responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience with journal entries and general ledger processes.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to create spreadsheets and use VLOOKUPs and pivot tables effectively.
  • Experience using accounting software such as Abila MIP; exposure to other financial systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the confidence to ask questions and seek clarity when needed.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and take ownership of assigned work.
  • Resilience, attention to detail, and a proactive, growth-oriented approach to working in a direct and fast-moving environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with additional accounting software or exposure to other financial systems.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $27 - $33 per hour.
  • Benefits include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance for contract/temporary professionals.
  • Eligible to enroll in the company 401(k) plan.
