About this role

About Candide

Candide is an AI-first tech company based at Babylonstoren in the Cape Winelands, with a second office in the UK. We build the digital products behind some of the world’s most celebrated hospitality and lifestyle estates — Babylonstoren, The Newt in Somerset, Vignamaggio, and others.

Our office sits on the Babylonstoren estate itself, surrounded by gardens, mountains, and farm-to-table food. We design, build and maintain eCommerce platforms, mobile apps, admissions and membership systems, booking engines, and brochure websites. Our team is small but high-impact, working across a portfolio of luxury brands that people genuinely love.

Role purpose

You will make sure every estate leader understands their business deeply, sees problems and opportunities early, and acts with confidence.

You do that by turning business questions into reports and analysis people trust and use, quickly and to a high standard. This is a hands-on role: most of your time goes into building, checking and delivering, alongside other analysts in the pod who also build. The Insights & Predictive Analytics pod owns everything from the semantic model to the person using the data. The Senior BI Analyst owns the architecture, standards and metric governance of that layer. You build within those standards, own delivery for the business areas you look after, and bring well-reasoned ideas to improve them.

This role suits a strong intermediate level analyst who enjoys delivering, learns a business fast and wants to grow their technical depth alongside experienced analysts.

Key responsibilities

Business understanding

  • Learn how each business area you look after works: what it sells, what drives its performance and how decisions are made.
  • Work with business owners to understand what they need to see, and challenge a request when a better measure exists.
  • Propose the metrics, leading and lagging indicators and owners for your areas, and agree them through the pod’s metric governance.

Reporting delivery

  • Take requests from question to trusted report: requirements, build, checks, release and handover.
  • Build reports, measures and model extensions on the pod’s shared, certified models, following the agreed standards for modelling, naming and report design.
  • Write and interpret SQL across our data sources to answer questions and test what you build.
  • Keep several pieces of work moving at once, deliver at a steady pace and set realistic expectations when priorities compete.

Data quality

  • Check your numbers against source and against existing reports before anything is released.
  • Follow the pod’s testing and release process, and add checks that catch problems before
  • stakeholders do.
  • Raise data gaps and issues with Data Engineering, rather than working around them in a report.
  • Keep the reports you own healthy and in use, and suggest retiring those that no longer earn their place.

Insight and analysis

  • Answer the question that was asked, and point out trends, early warnings and what to do about them.
  • Turn repeated one-off analysis into reporting that people can use again.
  • Contribute to forecasting and predictive work using the methods the pod has agreed, and track results against actuals.

Self-service and enablement

  • Help estate teams find answers for themselves through self-service and AI tools, and make sure those answers match the reports.
  • Document your work so others can understand, use and maintain it.
  • Train report users so they get real value from what you build.

Working in the pod

  • Bring design ideas to the other analysts in the pod with clear reasoning, and act on review feedback.
  • Share what you learn about the business and the data with the pod.
  • Pair with the Data Analyst on builds, share proven approaches and help them grow.
  • Suggest improvements to standards and ways of working based on what you see in delivery.

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • A relevant tertiary degree, for example in Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics,
  • Mathematics, Economics or Business Analytics.
  • Typically 3+ years in BI or data analysis, with a strong record of delivering reports that people use.
  • Hands-on Power BI or a comparable BI tool: data modelling, measures (DAX or similar), datapreparation and publishing.
  • Strong SQL, and the habit of checking your own numbers before anyone else sees them.
  • Evidence that you turned a business question into a report or metric that changed a decision.
  • Fast, organised delivery across several requests at once, with close attention to detail.
  • Clear communication with non-technical people, and openness to review and feedback.
  • Practical, critical use of AI tools in your own work.

Advantageous

  • Experience on a cloud data platform such as BigQuery.
  • Forecasting or statistical analysis in Python or R.
  • Hospitality, retail, ecommerce, membership or financial reporting.
  • Data from hotel, point-of-sale or finance systems.
  • Version control for BI or data work.
  • Self-service, semantic-layer or AI-enabled analytics tools.
  • Afrikaans in addition to English.

How we will know it is working

Estate teams get trusted answers quickly

  • The time from request to trusted report keeps falling for the areas you look after.
  • Most of what you release needs no rework after release.
  • Our own checks find data issues before stakeholders do.
  • Reporting is built on shared foundations
  • New reporting uses the shared, certified models and agreed metric definitions, not one-off builds.
  • Your work meets the pod’s standards in review, and needs less rework over time.

Insight leads to action

  • More people use your reports regularly, and keep coming back.
  • Stakeholders can point to decisions they made differently because of your work.
  • The pod grows stronger
  • Your technical depth grows year on year, and you take on more complex work.
  • What you build and share is reused across estates and by others in the pod.

Perks & Benefits

  • Daily catered lunch.
  • Flexible working hours — core hours are 9am to 3pm.
  • Choice of equipment (most of us use Apple).
  • Generous training and conference budget.
  • 30% discount at Babylonstoren — online shop, hotel, spa, and farm shops.
  • Free admission to Babylonstoren for you and immediate family.
  • Access to Babylonstoren’s recreation centre, gym, swimming pool, and studios.
  • Quarterly socials and team building.
