About this role
Belong to something. Believe in something. Strive for something. UHP creates professionals, builds leaders, and reveals purpose. We’re looking for people to join our team who believe this mission is worth showing up for every day.
UHP is a veteran-focused education and leadership development organization based on a scenic 800-acre campus in Northwest Arkansas.
The UHP School of Health & Performance offers program tracks in personal training, health coaching, and culinary nutrition. At the UHP Skilled Trades Institute, students earn the certifications necessary to launch careers in high-demand trades. Leadership development is baked into every program.
We also work with a network of employer and industry partners to open career pathways for our graduates. While we can't guarantee employment, everything we do is designed to give service members and veterans a real path toward meaningful careers.
Veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses are strongly encouraged to apply.
Why UHP
At UHP, you are joining more than a company — you are helping build something designed to create lasting impact.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to a mission larger than yourself.
The Opportunity
UHP is seeking a Behavioral Health Clinician (LCSW or clinical psychologist) to serve as the licensed behavioral health professional on our campus. You'll support the mental health, psychological safety, and performance readiness of our students, who are primarily veterans in transition, and help our staff do the same.
This is a hybrid role that blends clinical judgment, proactive wellness, and instruction. It is not an ongoing therapy caseload. You'll be the licensed professional students and staff turn to when a situation calls for one: crisis response, risk assessment, behavioral health support during incidents, and referral to outside care. Mental health is central to what UHP teaches, so instruction is a core part of this role. You'll also help establish the clinical guardrails and escalation pathways that keep our team within scope of practice, and serve as UHP's subject-matter expert on behavioral health.
Key Responsibilities
-
Crisis Response & Risk Management: Respond to student crises and conduct risk and safety assessments within your scope of practice. Support the behavioral health and risk-assessment aspects of student incidents, including conduct, harassment, and safety matters. Partner with program leadership, People, and Security, who retain decision authority for conduct, harassment, and safety investigations. Document incidents and meet mandated reporting requirements per UHP policy and Arkansas law. Coordinate referrals to outside care, including the VA, Vet Centers, and community providers. Coordinate emergency student needs, such as travel home, with program leadership.
-
Proactive Wellness & Student Support: Develop and lead a proactive wellness plan that identifies student barriers early in the program. Conduct early wellness check-ins covering stress, sleep, mood, concentration, and social connection, with follow-up around the program midpoint and warm handoffs for students who need more support. Provide brief one-on-one support and interventions within the learning environment. Help students regulate stress, navigate challenges, and stay engaged in the program. Support conflict resolution and healthy group dynamics. Participate in daily team syncs, student reviews, and After Action Reviews (AARs).
-
Instruction & Facilitation: Teach or co-teach modules on emotional regulation, stress management, communication and empathy, values-based decision-making, and mental performance foundations. Lead staff development on emotional regulation, stress management, and communication. Lead experiential, hands-on sessions rather than lectures. Model professionalism, presence, and psychological safety in the classroom. Contribute to curriculum development and refinement.
-
Scope of Practice & Program Integration: Establish clinical guardrails and escalation pathways that keep coaches, instructors, and staff within scope of practice, with clinical and investigative responsibilities clearly delineated. Equip faculty and staff to recognize concerns, respond appropriately, and escalate, without expecting them to act as mental health professionals. Provide consultation, support, and referral for UHP team members. Contribute across UHP programs (IHC, CPT, CNC, IGNITE, and leadership tracks) and support campus culture initiatives.
-
Qualifications & Experience
-
Required
-
Active license as an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or licensed clinical psychologist in Arkansas, or ability to obtain Arkansas licensure before start date. 5+ years of post-graduate experience, ideally with veterans, military, or high-stress populations. -
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong foundation in trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches (ACT, MI, mindfulness, NVC, CFT, IFS, etc.). Sound judgment on the boundaries between coaching, education, and clinical care. High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust quickly with diverse populations. Comfortable navigating group dynamics and high-intensity environments. Team-oriented, collaborative mindset.
-
Preferred

Experience with military, veteran, or tactical populations (VA, Vet Centers, Military & Family Life Counseling, SOF behavioral health, or operational psychology). Familiarity with reintegration challenges, sleep, and substance-use considerations. Experience in performance psychology, clinical health psychology, health coaching, or group facilitation. National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), or willingness to obtain.
-
Schedule & Work Environment
-
Schedule: Typically Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required based on program delivery and campus operational needs, including varying start and end times, occasional evenings and weekends, and support of immersive student experiences. This role also requires availability to respond to student, staff, and campus emergencies, including on-call coverage when needed.
-
Work Environment: Fully onsite at 25200 Ranch Road, Gentry, Arkansas 72734. This role operates in a dynamic and immersive environment supporting classroom instruction, experiential learning sessions, one-on-one student support, and broader campus operations. Candidates outside commuting distance will need to relocate to Northwest Arkansas.
-
Compensation & Benefits
-
Starting at $120,000, with higher compensation based on licensure, experience, and qualifications. 401(k). Health, dental, and vision insurance. Paid time off. Professional development support. Access to UHP performance and recovery facilities.
