Job title: Behavior Support Assistant
About the Role The Behavior Support Assistant provides support to behaviorally challenged students under the direction of a designated administrator and works to improve academic performance, self-esteem, social skills, and positive behaviors. This role may involve working with individuals or small groups and guiding students through school programs.
What You'll Do
- Assist a certificated teacher in supporting behaviorally challenged individuals or small groups
- Monitor, redirect, and modify student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance
- Develop activities, make presentations, and assist in training and supervising students in programs such as Cross-Age or Peer Tutoring, SARB, and related duties
- Collaborate with parents, school staff, and administrators to improve attendance and student outcomes
What We're Looking For
- Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent; coursework in child development, psychology, behavior management, or child education desirable
- Experience: Two years of experience with at-risk or special needs students in an educational setting; one year may be waived with relevant bachelor's degree
- Certifications/Licenses: Valid Basic/Standard First Aid Certificate and valid CPR Certificate (Child and Adult); CPI and PBIS training during probationary period
- Licenses/Language: Class C California Driver License and good driving record may be required; bilingual ability (Spanish) for bilingual position
- Additional: Ability to work with students, parents, and school staff to improve behaviors and academic performance
Nice to Have
- Coursework in related fields (child development, psychology, etc.)
- Bachelor's degree in social work, liberal studies, child development or related field may waive experience
Compensation & Benefits
- Behavior Support Assistant: $21.77 - $26.55 per hour
- Behavior Support Assistant - Bilingual (Spanish): $22.33 - $27.20 per hour
