Job Title: Backend / Integration Engineer

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

• We are seeking a skilled Backend / Integration Engineer to build, maintain, and optimise backend services and integrations connecting our lending platform with third-party providers across identity verification, credit assessment, payments, and collections.
• The ideal candidate will ensure that integrations are secure, reliable, well-tested, and properly documented, while supporting the development of internal APIs and maintaining the stability of production systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and optimise third-party integrations, including webhooks and callbacks, with proper signature verification and reliable retry mechanisms.
• Design, develop, and maintain internal APIs used by the customer portal, staff console, and business dashboards.
• Implement automated tests and monitoring for all integrations to ensure reliability and identify potential issues early.
• Document integration processes, API specifications, and technical workflows for easy maintenance and knowledge sharing.
• Manage credentials and sensitive information securely, ensuring appropriate access controls and maintaining audit trails of integration activities.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents promptly to minimise service disruptions.
• Prepare post-incident reports documenting identified issues, root causes, and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with the Automation Manager and other technical team members to improve system performance, integration reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Follow established software development practices, including version control, testing, and deployment procedures.
• Ensure that backend services and integrations comply with applicable data protection and security requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience building and maintaining backend services using Python or TypeScript/Node.js.
• Strong experience developing and integrating REST APIs, webhooks, and callbacks.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL and database management.
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests.
• Good understanding of Git and version control workflows.
• Hands-on experience with payment gateway integrations, fintech platforms, lending systems, or related financial services.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, particularly in production environments.
• Ability to write clear technical documentation and work effectively within a team.

Additional Advantages:

• Experience with n8n or similar workflow automation tools.
• Familiarity with Next.js and Prisma.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Knowledge of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and applicable data privacy principles.
• Experience building secure, scalable, and reliable financial technology systems.

They should be proactive in identifying issues, documenting solutions, and ensuring that critical services remain reliable and maintainable.
